Picture it, Frank

One-Shot

"Gee... Gerard...

"Hey, Gerard!" A hand waved in front of my face. I blinked, turning to the side. "What?" Mikey frowned slightly at me. "Dude, you've just been staring at Frank."

"I was not!"I protested a little too strongly. I could see Frank out of the corner of my eye, his red cheeks darkening slightly. Ray, who had been almost silent since we'd got here, suddenly lit up, staring at something over my shoulder with bright eyes. "Hey, Bob! He called, moving over deliberately. Bob grinned, dropping down next to him. "Hey, guys," he murmured. "How was school, kiddies?" he joked. At once, everyone launched into detailed accounts of their days. I sat slouched, leaning over my notepad, doodling. I wasn't really aware of what I was doing, but I knew it had to be just perfect. Suddenly, I noticed how silent it had gone. My eyes flickered up. Mikey was trying to keep his story going, but being so quiet, had never talked this much before. His sentences got shorter and his voice less animated, leaving Ray to finish for him, nattering endlessly, the Way he only seems to be able to with Bob. Frank grabbed my attention more than any of them, even Mikey, who was lying on the grass, breathing heavily from talking so much. Frankie had the look of someone who had been caught staring at something... someone. He looked up at me sheepishly from under his fringe. I couldn't help but grin at him. A matching smile spread across his face. I tore my eyes away from it, back to my drawing. For a second, I couldn't understand why I could still see it. Then I realised who I was drawing.
