What Happens, Happens
Harry was pulled from his restless sleep by the sound of retching coming from the slightly open door leading into the bathroom. His eyes focused on the thin strip of light emitting from the gap made by the door not being closed properly. He threw the sheets off of himself and groggily padded to the door rubbing his eyes.
"Ginny?" he asked as he pushed the door open more. The red head looked up at him weakly from her position on the bathroom floor, she gave him a small smile before covering her mouth with her hand and turning back around to empty her already empty stomach into the bowl. Harry made a hasty move to her side and replaced her hand on her hair with his own.
"Ginny you should have woken me up." He said when she had stopped, letting go of her hair to reach for a small towel, run it briefly under some cool water and carefully wipe her forehead with it, as he did so he realised the ghostly white colour her skin had become.
"Harry" she said in a serious tone, "I can handle a stomach bug without waking you up, now if Voldemort had decided to come and throw up in our bathroom, then I might consider waking you up. You get hardly any sleep already without me ruining it." Harry gave her a look to express that this was not a time for making jokes like that. "It's okay love, I'm fine." She said as she gently brushed the dark hair out of his green eyes.
"No you're not Gin, you're not fine-"
"Harry" she cut him off as she grasped at his arms to help herself up off the floor. Still holding onto Ginny with one arm, Harry attempted to flush the toilet, and then proceeded to lead his wife back into bed.
"Ginny, that's every day this week. I'm worried about your health, about you, you should know that." His tone conveyed all too well the worry he held for her.
"Harry as I said, it's probably just a stomach bug, nothing to be afraid of." She said patting the mattress beside as an indication that she wanted him to join her. "Come sit with me." She pleaded, using the 'puppy dog' eyes she knew he couldn't resist. As she knew he would, he made his way to her and placed himself next to her, pulling her smaller form into him. Ginny always felt safest in Harry's arms and knew, as long as he was there, as long as he was with her there wasn't anything that could happen that they couldn't deal with together.
All of a sudden Harry released her and made his way to the window across the room and stopped, staring into the street. Ginny wriggled off the mattress and walked slowly to him.
"What's wrong Harry?" She asked, softly resting her hand on his arm. As he turned his face to look at her it softened, worry leaving it slowly.
"I always think I see something, I always feel as though someone is watching us or something bad is going to happen." He said looking back out the window the worry crept back into his tired features.
"Harry it's been almost seven years since the end of the war, I don't think anything bad is coming for us anymore, let's go back to bed." She pleaded pulling at his arm. Still staring out the window he shook his head. "But you said I had to stay in bed if this happened again." She said successfully turning her husband around to face her.
"Yes, that was you. I think it would be best if I actually got ready for work, I'm supposed to be meeting your brother at his house so we can go over a few things before we get to the office." He said, peeling her hands off of him and leading her back to the bed.
"No please stay with me," she pleaded half-handily, "You don't have to go to work today, you can stay with me and we could spend some quality time together." She accentuated her meaning with a smirk to rival Draco Malfoy and a very suggestive wink. Harry let out a small chuckle at this.
"Ah yes, but what will I tell your Brother?" He asked which caused Ginny to momentarily freeze, "For if I were to tell him the real reason for my inability to come into work today he would march over here, murder me, and then bring me back and haul my butt to work after sending an owl to your mother… "He paused to let it sink in, "Would you want that?"
It took only a second for Ginny to make up her mind, she remembered how protective her brothers were, even after she and Harry had gotten married, and the image of her mother once again asking her when she was planning on gracing the Burrow with grandchildren was enough to get her to push her husband off of the bed where he was currently sitting.
"Well Harry, don't you think it is time you started to get ready for work?" She said with a sweet smile, as Harry let out a laugh.
"Are you sure Gin?" He asked her with mock sincerity, "I could stay home with you today?" She shook her head.
"Nah it's okay, I can take care of myself today. After all I'm going to be staying in bed today." She said with a grin.
"Are you feeling any better now?" Harry asked as he got up, walked over to the dresser and started to change into his Auror robes.
"Yes Harry, I'm fine now." She said as he made his way back towards her. He reached her side and with his free hand brushed a stray piece of hair behind her ear and placed a chaste kiss to her forehead.
"Yeah right, that's what you said yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that. Gin I really think you should go and see a Healer." He said watching her cautiously.
"I don't need to see a Healer Harry, I'm fine, trust me." She pleaded, holding him close. Harry relaxed slightly in her arms before his worry set in.
"But Gin, I don't know…" He said pulling back. "I just think I'd feel better if I knew what was wrong with you." The care he showed for her warmed her heart and his constant worrying and compassion made her love him more and more every day. But sometimes she wished he would just relax. She stood up and put her hands on his face and looking into his eyes, green to brown, she kissed him softly on the lips.
"Now Harry," she started a look of determination in her eyes as she pulled back. "How long have you known me?" she questioned as she leapt off the bed and made her way into the bathroom to get ready for the day.
"I'm not sure, twelve-thirteen years now?" He said running his hands through his hair as he walked across to the bedside table and picked up his wand to stow away in his pocket.
"And you still don't trust me?" She called from the other room, she poked her head out a moment later and gave him a small smile and then retracted her head back.
"Okay, Okay" He said and held his hands up in defeat even though Ginny was not in the room to witness his surrender. When she did return, she made her way to his side again and placed a longer kiss to his lips.
"So now, if I say that this is probably nothing and that I will be able to handle it, will you believe me?" Harry gave his cunning wife a small smile and nodded.
"I would still like it if you would go and see a Healer just as a precaution, you could ask Mione to go with you?" She sighed and returned a nod, satisfying her worrying husband.
"It's okay, I'm probably not dying." She said as she picked up her own wand from where it had been resting next to Harry's and placed it in her own pocket. "Come on," She said pulling his arm towards the door. "Come down stairs and I'll make you some breakfast before you go."
After a brief breakfast, in which Ginny tried not to show that some of the smells were making her stomach feel queasy again, Harry placed his dishes in the sink and headed towards the fireplace.
"Get some rest okay Gin?" He said as he kissed her cheek. Ginny held him close knowing she'd regret letting him go as soon as she did.
"It's not too late to call in sick as well you know, that wouldn't be too hard to believe." She waited for the response she knew was coming.
"You know I can't do that" He said letting her go and turning towards the fire place once more. She sighed knowing how bored she'd get if she had nothing to do all day.
"Then let me go to work, I haven't been in all week, surely my Boss is going to get a little annoyed at that." She replied, pulling him closer to her and further away from the fireplace. Harry smile at the persistence of his wife, for he knew more than most that Ginny Potter hated to sit still for too long.
"Not if you're sick he won't, which you are and you can't go to work if you're sick. Focus right now on getting better, then you'll be able to get back to work." He said grabbing some Floo powder and stepping into the fire place.
"I'll see you this afternoon?" He said and Ginny nodded, "And should I ask Mione to come over after work?" another nod. They leaned in for one more kiss, then he released the powder into the coals and when the green flames engulfed him he took a deep breath and yelled, "The Den."
