Babette in Once Upon a Time
Babette, a maid in the Disney film Beauty and the Beast, is vital for the next season of Once Upon a Time. She is a beloved character by many fans, there is valid reason to put her in the show, and there are several possibilities with her story.
Babette is beloved by many Beauty and the Beast fans. Although she only has a small set of appearances in the movie – and very few lines – her popularity has continued to grow. There are several thousand people who love her, as evidenced by the fan attention she has received. Countless fan-stories are dedicated to her, as well as detailed artwork. Bringing in such a widely-loved character into Once Upon a Time will undoubtedly attract more fans to the show. There is also a valid reason to include her in the show.
Babette has an important part to play in the show. It is common knowledge that Babette is the romantic interest of Lumiere, who has in fact appeared on the show. Although he has so far only had a single episode, he played an important part. Since Lumiere does in fact exist in the show, it makes sense that Babette would be somewhere in the Enchanted Forest. As we know, Zelena cursed Lumiere into a candelabra. To do so, she would have had to encounter Lumiere (and therefore Babette) before. That makes her one of the few people who had a connection to Zelena prior to Season 3 – and possibly even prior to Rumpelstiltskin capturing Belle. If Zelena cursed both Lumiere and Babette, then, although Lumiere was not in the Dark Castle when Belle was there, that doesn't mean that Babette wasn't. Therefore, she may very well have a large connection with important people. There are also several possibilities with the direction of her story.
There are a multitude of options when choosing Babette's story. Since she is rarely seen in Beauty and the Beast, very little is known about her. However, it's entirely possible to benefit from her minimal appearances in the movie. The mystery surrounding her not only draws more fans to her, but it allows people to fill in details about her backstory – and sometimes even her species – themselves. It would be easy to fit her into the show as a witch or the like, because she is never given any real backstory.
