NdA: flashfic. Fluff. Cobert + Baby Sybil

(late) June 1895.

insp.: Noble Maiden Fair (Brave soundtrack, 2012)

Little baby, hear my voice,
I'm beside you, oh maiden fair.

«Remind me again why you didn't want a nanny.» snorted Robert, looking by attempts to find the switch to lighten the lamp beside him.
«That's why.» Cora was talking in a low voice and even without looking at her he knew she was smiling. He chuckled a little while sitting on the bed, rubbing his eyes
«I didn't know we conceived a banshee.» Robert sighed. He wasn't annoyed at all, but he liked to play the part, besides, he loved that tiny smile that curled his wife's lips during the night.
«You know I missed all this.» Cora returned to bed with little Sybil in her arms «I agreed with Mary and Edith just because I was younger and unable to take care of babies.. Also, your mother made me.» she was giving him that look he couldn't resist. Robert smiled.
«But not this time.» he moved closer to them, cherishing gently the small back of his youngest
«No, not this time.» clenched Cora, cradling her baby «She's my beauty.» how could he blame her? Little Sybil did look like a doll. Sure, Mary and Edith were beautiful too as newborns but Sybil was simply stunning.
Robert should have felt embarrassed by the sight of his wife feeding their child, for that wasn't common for men to see and wasn't common either for a lady to do such things. Truth was that they were so beautiful together that everything about them left him speechless and charmed.
Cora didn't care if others could think it wasn't appropriate for two nobles like them to have a cradle in their room and no nanny; she had fought so hard, before, for the privilege of raising her daughters, but it hadn't been possible with Mary, who was the first-born – and as such she had to follow strict rules and education – and with Edith either, for she was born short after Mary and Cora was so exhausted at the time that she didn't have enough strength to face the demands of the dowager and her ally son.
Mary was Robert's beloved, along with Carson's; Edith was Violet's favourite because she saw herself in the face of that blond, quiet and also sharp girl.. but Sybil was hers.
Beautiful little Sybil would have been her mother's darling, pride and joy.
