because for you, that's what i'd do.
One day, they're walking in a park, and she spots her favourite flowers: carnations.
She squeals softly at the marvellous view of them in an open field with the carnations blooming in two colours: yellow and purple, which are astonishingly her favourites. The yellow catches her eye first because of its intensity, but her eyes lighten when she sights the purple. She prances over to the field, and he follows unconditionally, one perfect eyebrow raised.
"These are my favourite flowers," she exclaims, grinning estatically, "They're—"
"—Carnations," he finishes in his flawless voice, stuffing his hands into his jean pockets.
She tilts her head for a moment, but then shakes it off. He always had this freaky intuitive grasp on things, anyway, and maybe that was all there was to it.
He watches her for a few seconds as she bends down and graces one yellow and one purple carnation within her hands. Her eyes are sparkling, and he shifts his head to the side nonchalantly. "Your favourite colours were always yellow and purple," he says quietly.
She turns to him, her answering smile dazzling. Her cheeks are tinted with an edge of pink. "Well, yeah," she murmurs, twirling one carnation in her hand. "I've always liked yellow because it's so bright. It's able to make people happy."
Like you, he thinks, though he'll never say it aloud.
"And I like purple because..." she fumbles through her words, huffing. "...because I like purple. Even though it symbolises death which is quite contrasted to yellow's happiness, I think it's just as pretty. It reminds us the importance of life."
Silence fills between them, and then he feels two carnations being plopped into his hands. Yellow and purple. He does not say anything, and he hides the realisation in his mind.
She bites her lip. She'd never really admit that the yellow carnation symbolised her—her heart—and that he held it in his mere fingers. She'd also never say how she'd wish forever and ever that one day he'd appear and give the purple carnation to her, because it depicts him, and how he's the anchor that keeps her to the Earth.
Funny thing is, though he understands, the purple carnation is never returned as they walk home.
