Over You

Prompt: Over You- Daughtry

Now that it's all said and done,
I can't believe you were the one to build me up and tear me down.
Like an old abandoned house.

What you said when you left just left me cold and out of breath.
I felt if I was in way to deep.
Guess I let you get the best of me.

Emily stood in her living room. She couldn't move. She could barely breathe. She stood staring at her front door. She couldn't believe what just happened.

Well, I never saw it coming.
Should've started running a long, long time ago.
And I never thought I'd doubt you.
I'm better off without you more than you know.
I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.
Now I'm picking up the pieces,
Spending all of these years pulling my heart back together.

Only ten minutes ago, Hotch and Emily were arguing.

"Emily, I need to tell you something." Emily couldn't believe it. She thought she was finally going to hear him say thise three words, 'I love you.'

"Emily, I think we should end this before we get too serious." With these words, Emily's world came crashing down.

"Aaron, I think you're a little too late."

"What are you talking about, Emily?"

"Aaron, I love you. I've loved you for so long. Please don't leave." Emily begged. Tears filled her eyes, but she wouldn't let them fall.

"Emily, I'm sorry. I just don't feel the same way."

"Fine. You really need to leave now. Bye Hotch."

Hotch walked out of the front door without looking back.

Emily couldn't believe it. In less than 10 minutes, her world came crashing down. It seemed like nothing was right and she couldn't fix anything. She was completely heartbroken.

You took a hammer to these walls.
Dragged the memories down the hall.
Packed your bags and walked away.
There was nothing I could say.
And when you slammed the front door shut,
A lot of others opened up.
So did my eyes so I could see that you never were the best for me.

Emily knew what she needed to do. She went into work the next day. She put a smile on her face and pretended everything was perfect, even though she was breaking inside.

At the end of the day, she went to her computer and typed two letters. One was addressed to Hotch.

Dear Hotch,

I'm sorry. This is what I have to do. I can't change the way you feel about me. This is the only way. I need to get over you. Goodbye- forever.

-Emily

The second letter was her resignation. When everyone left, she went up to Hotch's office. He had just went to the garage to get something from his car. She opened the door and placed the two letters, her badge, and gun on his desk. She left his office, grabbed her things, and left Quantico for the final time.

Well, I never saw it coming.
I should've started running a long, long time ago.
And I never thought I'd doubt you.
I'm better off without you more than you know.
I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.
And now I'm picking up the pieces.
I'm spending all of these years pulling my heart back together.
The day I thought I'd never get through,
I got over you.
