Turbulent Depths

The air was electric with the crackle of lightsaber blades, their steady hum intensifying to a fierce buzz each time they clashed and scraped across each other, providing a rhythmic staccato over the monotonous hum of the air conditioning that worked to rid the room of the creeping taint of ozone and human sweat.

Within the deadly circle of whirling blades, girl and boy matched each other move for move, each keeping perfect time with the other as if they were locked in some ancient choreographed dance rather than a contest of lethal skill. She was the quicker of the two and fought with a light subtlety, always spinning away from his blade and returning from unexpected angles in a flurry of dark braids, weaving through his blows with a deftness that made him seem cumbersome by comparison. He was the stronger of the two though, and his strength was beginning to wear her down. Calm and steady, he kept on the pressure with an implacable barrage of blows that slowly sapped at her strengh.

'Enough!' With an instant whoosh the glowing blades vanished and both combatants turned as one to face their master. Oolan Mhe allowed himself a moment of pride as he looked on his Padewan disciples. Galen would probably gain an edge through attrition if he allowed them to continue much longer, but they were close enough for it to make little difference. 'Torrena, try and make more use of your movement. Use it to throw him off balance. Attack where he is weak.'

'Yes Master.' The girl inclined her head in a bow of respect,

'Galen, you chose a sensible tactic, making good use of your greater strengh and weight. I sense that you will make a great swordsman someday, remember though that you must fight with wisdom as well as strength. The mind and body are…'

His lecture was interrupted by a hiss of static as the ships internal communications relay cut in. 'This is Captain Fey'lon. We are nearing approach to Mon Calamari, and have been cleared to land.'

'Goood.' Oolan muttered, more to himself than to anyone else. 'Captain we are grateful for your service. Please meet us at the Embarkation ramp after landing. You two get cleaned up – you are soon to be presented as Diplomatic envoys.'
