Chapter 1:
Percy stared openly at the girl standing in front of him. She had shoulder-length blonde hair and brown eyes. He remembered her from the Hermes Cabin, Paige. She was one of the best fighters they had at camp, though she wasn't claimed yet. If he wasn't mistaken, she was going to be turning thirteen in a few weeks. To be honest, he was wondering who her godly parent was. Maybe it was Hermes. "Hey, what are you doing?"
"I'm…" He thought for a moment. What was he doing? Where was he going to go? He shrugged. "I'm leaving." Paige stared at him with what be thought was slight awe and grabbed his arm. He winced. Her grip was strong. That was probably why she was so good at sword-fighting.
"Hey, I know someplace you can go," she said surely. "I was actually going to go back soon so why don't you come with me? At least, just listen to everything I say before making judgments, okay?" she pleaded. Percy frowned slightly. He was never good at making big decisions but it seemed like there was nothing to lose. Besides, what was her place like?
He nodded reluctantly. Paige smiled and released his arm. "I'll meet you at the beach in a little," she said before turning around and running off to her cabin.
Once inside, she pulled out her bag and pulled out a pack of neatly folded clothes. She ran her fingers though the familiar fabric before heading to the restroom to change. Hopefully, nobody would notice their absence until at least…say a week later. After all, the people that actually paid attention to him and her were out on recruitment missions, anyway. That was good. Things were going better than planned.
-Warrior's World-
Percy slowly approached Paige, who was standing by the shoreline. She was wearing knee-high black combat boots, a red mini-skirt and a black long sleeved v-neck shirt. Her belt had a gun holster (with gun) and a small pouch-like bag hanging on her side. There was a golden pin on her shirt that said Ova1. Completely befuddled, he froze at the sight of her. "…what are you wearing?"
"This?" She pointed to the clothes questioningly. "It's uniform. You have to wear it," she said, playing with her hair. He blinked in confusion. Wasn't she taking him to her house? Was it also a boarding school? Uniform? He shook his head to clear his thoughts to examine her further. She wore a black drawstring backpack on her back. He barely noticed it; it blended in so well with her shirt. It looked nearly empty. What was she carrying? "Let's walk."
They began their stroll down the shoreline. "Okay, Paige-"
"Can you not call me that anymore?" she asked, cutting him off. Percy shut his mouth, not sure what to say about her sudden outburst. "Sorry, it's just...I don't really like that name anymore." She didn't say anything else. As they walked, Percy attempted to say something to break the silence but decided against it. All of the things she was telling him really didn't make sense.
Finally, they stopped. Paige wheeled around to face him, frowning slightly. "Before I take you to my place, I'll need to tell you a few things about it," she said, fingering her shirtsleeve. She looked up to face him. "Can you listen? I'll just need to say it and we can go." Percy, not sure what to do or say, merely nodded. Paige remained silent but suddenly rushed out the words.
"There are gods, there are titans and the primordial. There is this one primordial, the most powerful and oldest primordial, which created everything that exists to this day, either indirectly or directly. His name is Chaos. His domain is everything under him. Now, his brother is the primordial Order. He is the creator of all the monsters, which are above Chaos. He is born to oppose Chaos."
"Like a giant, right? Each giant is born to oppose a god," Percy muttered. He didn't really understand what she was saying but that one piece of information had stuck out and smacked him in the face. Paige nodded.
"To protect his creations, Chaos held a trial of amazing feat with his creations. It was not the trial of the strongest, the fastest, the smartest, most athletic or anything. It was a trial of bravery, willpower, trust, support and teamwork. Surprisingly, the majority of his creations failed. The very few who passed were enlisted for life under Chaos' order as a member of his army." Paige finally stopped speaking and gave Percy a sideways glance. He was slow, but not slow enough to miss this.
He pointed to himself. "I'm one of them? I'm one of the members because I passed this test I never took?" Paige smiled.
"You've taken it many times. Reality is not as real as you may think. There were several scenarios you have stepped forward in. All of them were carefully watched over so in the case that you failed, there would be another hero to take over. You passed all five of them," Paige explained.
Percy pondered this. If he had failed, were there really other people who would take up the responsibility? Would they still have won the war, even without his help? He shook his head. All of this was too confusing to think about. "Okay…so you're in the army?"
She shrugged. "You could say that," she said indifferently. She gave him a mischievous smirk before adding, "Actually, I'm the Commanding Officer for Class Red and Class Ova, the best teams in the army." Percy gaped at her. She grinned eagerly. "I know, cool right? That's an awesome title," she said, complementing herself.
Suddenly, she turned serious. "So, I have to deliver this message to you," she said, taking off her backpack. She pulled out an index card and scanned over it before dropping it on the ground. It disappeared from sight as soon as she let go of it. "Chaos has been watching you and has decided that your new legacy would be as his son," she stated, much to Percy's shock. "Your name is Peter, eye color is bronze-brown and you have black hair-"
"What are you talking about? I'm a son of Poseidon," Percy demanded.
Paige glared at him. "No, you're not. You're a son of Chaos. That's your new legacy but the truth is that it was your original one. You need to forget about everything else because it was merely a cover-up."
Percy glared back at her. "I can't. I can't forget everything that happened. My friends protecting me and fighting together wasn't a lie. I have friends and family here and I can't just go." Paige dropped her backpack and lunged forward but at the last moment, held herself back and instead resorted to yelling.
"The moment you learned about your birth was the moment everything changed here! Nobody at this damn camp knows you! How could you say that you have friends?" she snapped suddenly. There seemed to be a hidden meaning in her words, one that Percy didn't understand just yet. She stopped her verbal assault when an urgent voice could be heard. She lifted her hand to her right ear to reveal something like a Bluetooth device around her ear.
"Class Ova, hot call. Gear up and prepare for launch."
She gritted her teeth before removing her hand. She turned to Percy. "I'm only going to say this once more and I'll give you another chance. You can either choose to join or not and forget about everything I just said. You have already acknowledged your heritage of a son of Chaos, anyway." As she spoke the wind picked up. "Live in your lies as a child of an Olympian. I have to tell you, I get much more benefits being a commander of an army," she finished, turning around.
Water from the beach rose into a stream and swirled around her. Her appearance seemed to change. Her shoulder-length blonde hair got longer and thinner and changed to long black hair. Her eyes changed to a metallic color, like copper-brown. She looked like the most serious person Percy had ever seen. And the most dangerous.
With a final glance his way, Paige turned to face Percy. "So long then, Peter."
A/N: It's been rewritten with a few minor changes. I'm still a little shaky on this chapter but here it is! What do you think of the new name for the story? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
