"Kahn, I can see land ahead. Is this the place you told us about?" A very rugged and muscular man said as he turned towards a much larger man sitting behind him.

"Yes," the man replied. "This is Alagaesia. From what my sources have told me, only four dragons are still alive. One hasn't hatched, but we know it to be male. Apparently, there is only one female dragon still alive. If we kill her, the race will die out.

Slowly, a large black ship with black sails dropped anchor and smaller lifeboats, with several men aboard each, were lowered to the dark waters below.

"Row!" The men cried in unison. "Row!"

The chant continued until the rowboats hit shore. The men hopped out, one by one, and pulled a large crate out of each boat. The man called Kahn walked over to the chest and inserted a key into a small opening. A soft click was heard and the chest opened revealing several large axe-like objects with long dagger devices protruding from the wheel shaped end.

"Take your weapons men!" Kahn yelled. "For tomorrow, we shall march on Surda, and then into the Empire! They will join us or die! The last female will be slain and our thousand-year journey will finally come to an end!"

Kahn's yell was well received by his men and a roar of applause echoed across the plains.

Surda:

Saphira, where are you? It is getting late. Eragon asked as he looked up into the sky.

I am coming little one. You seem worried, what is wrong? His dragon responded as she looked down, spying Eragon below her.

Nothing is wrong Saphira. You worry too much.

You do not worry enough. I can sense something is wrong and you are going to tell me before you sleep.

Saphira severed her contact with Eragon temporarily as she landed gracefully behind him. Eragon turned to face his dragon and a smile crept across his face.

Eragon, are you going to tell me willingly? Saphira sniggered.

I don't want to get on your bad side so- but he was cut off as his dragon's voice entered his head.

You can never get on my bad side little one. Now tell me what is bothering you.

Saphira walked over to her young rider and curled around him protectively, pulling him to the ground.

I sense danger. Something tells me that we are no longer safe.

I have sensed that as well. Do not worry about it. If anyone attempts to harm you, I will rip them apart.

Eragon smiled at the protectiveness of his dragon and snuggled up to her warm underbelly and closed his eyes. Saphira soon lowered her wing over Eragon and laid her head in his lap.

I love you Saphira.

I love you too little one.
