Even though he'd seen her do it every day for years, Mamoru still watched his wife as she brushed her hair, pulling the long strands into her trademark buns one tug at a time. Excess length pooled on the floor around her bare feet and the legs of her chair while she worked the first into a smooth sphere, completing the effect with a second hair tie to hold it in place, tip of the tongue peeking out the corner of her mouth in absent concentration.

A smile curved the Terran King's lips when she duplicated the bun, and spun to face him with a grin of her own, twin tails swishing around her. "So! You said you had a surprise for my birthday," she said, and her grin widened in tandem with a mischievous waggle of her brow.

He couldn't help but to laugh. "But it's not a surprise if I tell you, now is it?"

The blonde mock-pouted. "But that means I have to wait."

"True, true ..." Mamoru mused, and tilted his head with a thoughtful frown. It didn't last. "... Then again, who made me wait, too?" he reminded her with a nod towards her growing belly. A little foot kicked against his hands when they circled her waist, and the petite blonde laughed. Another smile tugged at his lips. "I think it's only fair."

"This isn't even the same thing," Usagi protested, wiggling in his arms to face him. She stood on her tip-toes, bracing her fingertips against his chest to kiss him. Feather-light play only lasted a few seconds before she fell back on her heels, drumming her fingers against him in the process. "What could it possibly hurt?"

Mamoru tapped her nose. "It's not just my surprise, Usako." The Terran King produced a length of silk from his pocket, and leaned down to press a kiss to the top of her head. "Blindfold first, surprise second."

Her mock pout returned for all of half a second before a grin split her features, and Usagi twisted in his arms a second time. "You're such a tease, Mamo-chan."

He chuckled and fastened the cloth. "Onward we go."
