Just a one-shot inspired by a picture I saw on facebook that said, "Our grandmothers prayers are the reason most of us are still here."

Granny's Prayers

Pinako sighed. Again those boys, Ed and Al, almost her own grandchildren, were off. Some unknown danger and they were diving in head first. But this time was different. This time Winry was traveling with them because of the possible need of automail change for their pending trip to Briggs.

The fact Winry was with them, the only blood she had left, scared her more than anything even losing her own life. But she had held her posture, and let the boys know that when they were ready to return she would be there waiting, and they would have somewhere warm and safe to lay their heads.

As she watched their backs fade in the distance she simply closed her eyes, knowing God would understand and forgive her weak knee's for not kneeling, then began to pray.

This part was no different though, because as usual she would pray and hope that it was in Gods plan for them to return home safe.

She remembered one time she had prayed in front of Edward for their safe return. Ed usually respected the old woman's ways and never criticized her beliefs, but for some reason he had snickered and said that she was wasting her time.

From then on she used the word 'hope' in place of pray to avoid any smart words from Ed about God. But maybe in her mind this was a way of keeping him safe from criticizing God and further hurting his chances to get into heaven.

As she sat down at the kitchen table and began to clean up the tools she'd used on Ed's automail while he had been here a feeling arose in her heart. She knew those boys would keep Winry safe even if it also cost them their lives as well.

And although that was comforting… it was equally as worrying.

"Don't laugh at me!" Winry said whacking Ed upside the head with her wrench.

"Ow!" Ed cried holding the side of his head, "I was only joking."

"God isn't something to joke around with Ed."

"She's right brother." Al pitched in.

Ed frowned, "Oh not you too, Al."

Winry sighed, "You know granny's prayers were probably the only things keeping you alive all these years."

Ed hung his head, "Yeah, Yeah…" he looked up to the sky as they walked.

Maybe a God did exist, but, even if one didn't exist, the thought of someone praying in his sake was still a comfort…..

Please review, yes I am Christian and I just thought that maybe its possible in her old age Pinako could be too? Please leave some feed back because I want to know how to write this better cause I feel this one was a tad rushed and not really detailed.
