Thunderstorm
Katara was never afraid of lighting or thunderstorms until the day that Zuko saved her. In fact she always liked to listen to the sound of thunder in the night when she lied in her bed and everybody else was asleep.
Now she was lying awake in her bed and nervously tossing her bed sheds, turning from one side to an other. Outside the house thunder raged and lightning enlightened the nightly sky.
No sound came from the other rooms where Sokka and Suki, Toph, Zuko, Aang and a few servants were sleeping. The rain pelted against her window and if she could go back in time for only four months she would be happy about it.
Not now and probably never again. Now she was afraid of it.
Her thoughts drifted back in time to the day of Sozin's Comet and the battle with Azula.
Again she was there – she didn't know how often she relived this moment in her thoughts, her dreams and nightmares.
She saw Azula who formed the lightning and shouted it at her. Katara saw the lightning, knowing it would hit her and couldn't move her feet. All she could do was starring in shock – all thoughts gone.
Then she heard someone desperately shouting. The "No." echoing in her head. Zuko? Yes, it must be him shouting. With horror Katara saw him jumping in front of her, right in front of the lightning. It hit him and soon after that he fell lifelessly to the ground.
All in Katara screamed to get to Zuko and heel him as soon as possible but there was still Azula who saw her running to her almost dead brother and attacked her. While she fought the princess of the Fire Nation all her thoughts belonged to Zuko. Knowing he was still alive – not knowing for how long he would still be.
After she defeated Azula, she ran back to Zuko, who lied heavily breathing on the ground. She bended some water from the flacon she carried with her and began to heal the wound right above Zuko's heart.
Terrible seconds passed without any reaction from him. Then he opened his eyes and looked at her. "Thank you, Katara." A little smile played around his lips but then he twisted painfully his face.
Tears stinging in her eyes she smiled down at him, all she could do was whisper: "I think I'm the one who should thanking you."
Tears ran down her cheeks when she wasn't even aware that she was crying. With a strange feeling in her stomach she got up, opened the door and looked around for any unwanted witnesses. When she was sure that she was the only person still awake she stepped out of her room and slunk to Zuko's. Before she opened his door she took one shaky breath. It's dark inside the bedroom but Zuko is still awake, looking at her expectantly.
"Couldn't sleep?" he asked tired.
"No, couldn't" was all she answered as she snuggled next to him.
"What's the reason this time?" Ember eyes were looking at her serious.
Her head on his shoulder she murmured: "Just don't do it again."
"Don't do what again?"
"The lightning, please Zuko." She pleaded.
He sight and laid an arm around her. "As long as you aren't in any danger." Then his lips were on her cheeks kissing the tears away, her nose and – finally – her lips and this was when she wasn't afraid of the weather outside anymore.
A/N: I'm not sure about the last sentence. Can't say that I like it but I had the feeling that it completes the story. Do you think it fits to the rest of the story?
Well, the question is: Where does this little one shot play? Again I'm not totally sure but I think that they are on Ember Island again … but if you want to think that it plays anywhere else it's also fine with me (just let me know where).
Hope you liked this one shot (:
Please review and let me know (even if you don't like it)! R&R
