Sometimes, she thinks no one in the world can ever understand her. Her friends, though they try, will never truly understand the weight of the Slayer's duty nor will Giles. Her mother tries the hardest of all and yet also is the one furthest from understanding her. Then she finally learns her secret.
One morning as the sun's rising after another nasty, almost-ended-the-world battle, Joyce turns to her and tells her how proud she is. Buffy sees how tired Joyce is in her mother's eyes. She sees the exhaustion of fighting for her own world, for a mother and daughter to make it in a world that aches to tear them apart. Buffy smiles as they hug, thinking maybe she is her mother's daughter after all.
