It was a rather dismal day at Hogwarts, or so Lexi thought. It was dreary and threatening rain, but to the rest of the students it was almost normal. She grudgingly grabbed her umbrella after pulling on brand new robes and tucking her wand (cypress, phoenix feather core, 9 ¾ inches, rigid and ornately carved) into her bag. She simply couldn't understand why she had to buy new ones as her ones from the Southeast Hogwarts Academy of the United States were almost exactly the same. At least I don't have to go through Sorting again, she thought as she descended the stairs to the common room of Slytherin dorm.

The dorm was dark and damp, unlike the one she had to come to know in her years at Southeast Hogwarts. There, it had been warmly lit by candles and a pleasant fire, not…green. Of course, she had to deal with the dorm, as it was going to be her home for the rest of her years in school. She was originally from Florida, but her father had gotten a job offer he couldn't refuse in the UK, so they had moved. Lexi had been transferred to the original Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, even though she was in her third year. At least she had not come in the middle of term.

As she entered the common room, the very thing she feared happened: everyone turned to look at her. She had to force herself to keep her head down and not freeze in place as the whispers started. She walked quickly through the common room and out the door, pulling out a map to help her find the location of the Great Hall.

After a few minutes of wandering, she finally located the place she was seeking. She walked in and, to her surprise, no one even looked up. She happily walked over to Slytherin table and sat by herself, pulling out a book and lightly snacking on an orange. Alexi Dong was Asian, with sleek black hair to her shoulders and a sturdy build. She was extremely intelligent and loved reading, as it transported her to another world altogether different from her own.

She was torn from her reverie as Severus Snape cleared his throat next to her. She looked up, feeling a sense of dread as she took in the sight of her Head of house. He was wearing long black robes which buttoned up the front. His greasy black hair hung limply to his jaw line and there was a slight frown on his face.

"Alexi Dong?" He asked, his voice low and even. She nodded solemnly as people began to stare. "I have your schedule. I trust you'll figure out how to get to your classes on time." He handed her the schedule and she nodded as he turned on his heel and swept away, back to the teachers' table at the front of the Great Hall.

Lexi looked at her schedule and sighed. She had gotten the two electives she wanted, Muggle Studies and Care of Magical Creatures. Unfortunately, her first class was Care of Magical creatures. It was no big deal, but it was with Gryffindor. Even in America, Gryffindor and Slytherin disliked each other. She was fearful of even more whispers and some possible taunts about her being the new student. She looked down the table to see a boy with platinum-blonde hair and pointy features sneering with his burly friends and pointing at her. She quickly tucked her schedule in her bag next to her map and gathered her things. She hastened out of the Great Hall, even though all she ate was half of an orange. She found a staircase that was tucked in a corner and sat down to map out her day.
