My legs dangle in the water as I stare off into the western sky, observing the sunset. Sunset… The sky's fiery last stand before the onset of night. A mysterious, alluring time, but also a time of danger and death. We Pikmin have been afraid of sunset for as long as I can remember.

The monsters…

Horrible, vicious monsters wake up at sunset. We don't stand a chance against the monsters. Even with armies of Red and Purple Pikmin - our best fighters - they're simply too powerful.

...Or so we've been told. Are the monsters really that bad? Why do we take off each night? We're not on the verge of extinction anymore, so why do we cling to the foolish notion that the monsters would annihilate us? I don't believe that Purple Pikmin couldn't take down the monsters.

Before the Captains arrived, we didn't stand a chance. The Purple and White Onions were destroyed in a great war with the monsters, and the remaining Onions buried themselves into the ground, far from the nearest trace of the monsters. However, when the Captains were with us, the tables were turned on the monsters. Sure, there were losses, but in the end, we managed taking down even huge, terrifying beasts, such as giant four-legged creatures, terrifying bird-serpents and even golden apparitions.

And with the Captains' departure, it seems that we've finally been able to take care of ourselves.

So why is it that we're still afraid of the monsters? Each of us Pikmin are trained fighters. We go against monsters daily, and we've gotten to the point where we lose maybe 20 Pikmin every lune. Even that sounds like a lot, but our populations are so high that it's hardly noticeable. Negligible, even. And yet that primordial fear haunts us to this day...but...why?! It makes absolutely no sense.

"Hey! What are you doing? You're gonna get left behind! Hurry up!"

Oh. Hmm...yes, the sky is getting quite dark. I'd best make my way to the Onion. Even if I dislike the idea of being afraid of the night, I still prefer staying in the Onion. I get up and begin running towards the Onion.

Aren't I such a hypocrite?

A/N: Just felt like writing something since I haven't written anything in a while. But it's so short... Ah well. Not sure if I'll update this or not, though. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this. -PikFan
