Prologue
The young man hastily fled for his life down the dirt path through the dense jungle. The camp was in plain sight, but he couldn't stop running. He had to escape whatever was pursuing him, and he knew it wasn't far behind him. Not looking behind him, he quickened his pace even more to a full sprint. The sound of hungry growls echoed behind him, and they grew louder and louder by the second. "Almost there," he muttered as he got closer and closer to where he thought he would be safe. Numerous large tents were evenly situated throughout the area and trucks were identically parked next to each tent. When he finally reached the camp, he stumbled to the entrance of the first tent he saw and yanked the zipper high enough to allow him to squeeze in. Without hesitation, he pulled the zipper to the ground and stepped back until he hit the table behind him. Sweat poured onto his torn, blood stained research uniform as he fumbled through the table for something to use as some sort of weapon. Shoving the clipboards, pencils, papers off the table, he could not find anything and began to panic. "Shit!" Scrambling to the other side, he ran to a two-drawer desk behind the table and opened one of the drawers to find a handgun and a clip of bullets. "Thank Jesus Christ!" He quickly grabbed the gun, loaded the clip, and spun around and pointed the gun at the tent entrance. He stood completely still, but his hands shook violently. The growling noises had ceased, leaving a cold, dead silence.
The young man cautiously stepped around the table towards the tent entrance. Slowly bending down, he grabbed the zipper and gradually pulled it up. He peaked out the tent to find nothing following him. To his surprise, the camp was completely deserted, but to his horror there was blood splatter everywhere. Even more disturbing were the various black, leech-like worms scattered around the tents and trucks. "Oh my god." He stepped out of the tent, still pointing his gun out, as he started a search for any survivors. "Hello?" he called out. "Is anybody here? Hello?" Unfortunately, his call would be met by continuous shrieking. He spun around to find a giant, black gorilla approaching. The beast glared at the man, but this was not any ordinary ape, and the man knew it. It had chased him all the way to the camp, and maybe it was responsible for the disappearance of the other researchers. Terrified, the man squeezed the trigger of the gun and fired three times. The ape stumbled back as the bullets made contact with its stomach, but for some reason it seemed like it had no effect. The young man stumbled back in horror. "What the fuck? It should be dead!" The gorilla glared back and raised its arms in furious rage. As it shrieked, its left arm exploded and a swarm of black, leech worms formed. The young man's eyes were struck with complete fear. "Holy shit!" He shot four more times until the gun was empty. "No! NO!" He threw the gun to the ground and turned around to run. The gorilla lunged its arm forward as the worms clung to the back of the man's head. He screamed out in horror as the leech-worms wrapped around his head until it was completely engulfed. The gorilla roared as a loud crack echoed in the air. Blood seeped through the worms as the man's now headless body fell to the ground.
