Flightless Prodigy
Her muscles tensed as she got ready to apply pressure to Kirara's side and command her to fly. She felt the words rise up in her throat… and die when they reached her lips.
I can do this, She thought fiercely. Apply pressure and…"Kirara! F…" She fumbled.
Darn it!
What is wrong with me?! "Sorry Kirara, I can't seem to do it without father." The 9 year-old whispered to her Neko companion. This wasn't right. She was the village's prodigy; it's most promising Demon Slayer for centuries. Surely her first flight alone would be no problem. Tomorrow was her first time on the job to a foreign village alone. She had to conquer this ridiculous fear of hers.
She wanted to travel the country and defeat demons on her own. Without Kirara's flight, that was impossible. She wanted to protect humans and the ones she loved. She wanted to search for the long lost Shikon no Tama and restore it to its rightful place. To restore her villages honor. To put Midoriko to rest.
One more time.
"Kirara!" She took a deep breath "Fly!" Kirara leapt into the air and flew around the village.
Sango was sure she had heard her village's guardian whisper in her ear.
"Thank you, my child."
A/N: So this was my first submission to the livejournal community iyissekiwa though I've been watching it for a long time. This challenge really spoke to me so I wrote it, touched it up and decided to submit it. Just to improve my writing. I got the inspiration after I read a story on this community. Not sure which one. I'm too lazy to check... It was about Midoriko. And Kirara too. I love Midoriko so I had to write this. It also spoke about Kirara's first flight and it got me thinking about Sango's growth into the killer slayer that she is so I might be exploring her growth through drabbles now. If I do do this it will most likely be posted randomly and out of order on this story. For now though, this is a stand alone drabble.
And to any who care, I've always thought that Sango is a really fearless girl who might occasionally let that facade drop. She looks and acts fearless but I believe shes a fragile girl underneath it all. I mean we've seen her break before (when she tried to kill Kohaku). And of course she's the village prodigy.
Reviews are appreciated. Tell me your thoughts. Should I explore a character usually ignored?
