Laugh
Disclaimer: I do not own Sweeney Todd or the associated characters.
Honest, he really did miss her laugh. They had been sleeping together for quite a while now. It started months ago. Sweeney had since killed the judge, but Lucy was still in his thoughts. At the beginning, it was just him warming her bed in the cold winter. Nothing more. Just taking up the extra space in the bed too big for a single woman. They got closer each night until it happened.
Sweeney polished one of his silver friends, deep in thought. She had stopped smiling and laughing. Her endless chatter gone, and instead of bringing the cheery air with her, it was like a little rain cloud hanging over her head. Raining on everyone's parade. It was not long after they started when Nellie grew pregnant. He remained neutral to it. Not excited like the vermin of the streets, nor upset or angry. But he couldn't imagine them having a child all the same. He had Johanna.
It had been less than three months when she noticed the blood. He was there, but his first thought was for her, not the baby. After a long night of her crying into his chest, Sweeney finally shushed her. He wouldn't admit, not even to himself, but it twisted his broken heart as much as it could. Seeing her at this level was hard for him, even as seemingly emotionless as he was. When she was calmed, she fell right asleep in his arms. The next morning they didn't speak to each other. Not for days, even a week, she would bring up food for him, or collect his laundry, not uttering a word.
There was very little pain for him that her- their unborn child had died. It was more painful to watch her waste away while he could do nothing to prevent it. Sweeney, deep down, cared for Nellie. She always wanted to be a mother.
It was dark outside at the moment, his razor gleaming in the moonlight shining through the window. The barber closed his eyes for a second, just thinking. He hadn't a chance to bed her since then, and even if he was given the time, he doubted she would want to. It had been two months. What a bloody wonder she was.
The door slammed open loudly and in walked Nellie, a tray in her arms. He hissed as he nicked himself with his razor.
"Mrs. Lovett, I'd appreciate some warning."
"Sorry dear..." That was the most she'd said to him so far.
"I'll be down with you shortly, Mrs. Lovett."
"Of course, Mr. T. I'll be waiting."
She stepped out to leave once more after she set the tray down.
"Why so talkative today, Mrs. Lovett?"
She smirked.
"Well, Mr. T, I'm pregnant again."
"I see... Go downstairs. I'll be there soon."
She laughed uncharacteristically a twinkling, light sound.
It was nice to hear her laugh again.
