Summary: Companion piece to "Chasing You" from Mary's point of view.
His hands are awkwardly large
For his age, yet each finger is long
And round off at the tip
The nails groomed short
As he is often digging his hands
into the rich dirt
He pushes back the bangs of his dark hair
With the back of his hands
And his cheeks are slightly pink
From the effort he puts in his work
And soon the world is abloom
From the touch his magical fingers
Flowers sprouting from their seeds
Lifting their heads to gaze at the sun
His eyes sparkle and dance with delight
With each new discovery
And when he gazes at me his eyes soften
Tender like a caress
When I turn though he is already
Looking in a different direction again
But his lips hold a secret smile
Tugged slightly at the corners
"Mary, Mary, quite contrary
how does your garden grow?"
He teases and hands me a bouquet
Of brightly colored tulips
I cradle the flowers in the crook of my arm
Then gaze up into his gentle eyes
Lowering my lashes I press my lips against his
He is at first caught with surprise
But then he yields gently catching my kiss
I bite his lower lip playfully
"With silver bells and cockle shells
and pretty maids all in a row"
I finish the rhyme for him
and soon he is chasing me
through the garden of our childhood
