A/N: So I was actually thinking of Buffy when I got this idea. I don't know how many of you that are reading this have watched Buffy but in the beginning of the third season she's on the beach and Angel is suddenly there... anyway, it's that scene I was thinking of when I got this idea...

That said...

Forever

He was at the beach and there was sun and a nice breeze and the waves were lapping at his feet.

Neal Caffrey closed his eyes, concentrating on the feel of the wind and the water.

It was peaceful here.

Kate loved the beach…

No sooner had the thought crossed his mind than he felt a presence at his side and opened his eyes.

Kate was there, staring out at the water, her expression serene. The wind played with her long brown hair, gently wafting it behind her shoulders.

Neal smiled. "You're here," he said, and he wasn't actually surprised.

It seemed right somehow, that Kate would be here, just when he was thinking of her.

"I'll always be here," Kate said softly and Neal nodded.

That seemed right too.

Kate loved the beach, after all.

And it was so peaceful here…

So much blood…

Absently Neal rubbed his chest, frowning slightly.

"You have to go," Kate remarked quietly.

"I'd rather stay with you," Neal murmured. "I love you."

Kate nodded, reaching out to trail a hand down his cheek, stopping just shy of touching him, looking wistful. "So many people," she said softly.

Neal frowned. "What do you mean?" he asked, confused.

"So many people you can help. I can see them," Kate said, smiling sadly at him. "You don't belong here. You make a difference, Neal."

Blood everywhere… pain… a worried voice saying his name…

Peter.

Pain pricked at his chest and he rubbed it, frowning.

If he stayed… would he ever see Peter again?

Pain… blood…

His chest hurt.

If he didn't stay… Kate…

"I belong with you," he said finally and Kate smiled wistfully again.

"I'll always be here, Neal," Kate murmured.

"Promise?" Neal asked as his vision flickered.

Blood… Peter leaning over him…

He could still choose…

Kate's hair blew gently in the breeze.

"Forever," she said, her voice faint. "That's the whole point, Neal."

Forever…

Pain.

Darkness.

Slowly he opened his eyes.

The sky was gray and overcast.

"Neal?"

It hurt to move.

"Neal? Are you with me?"

Peter's face was suddenly in his line of sight, his brown eyes worried.

"Hurts," he managed, closing his eyes weakly.

"I know it hurts, Neal, but you have to stay with me," Peter insisted, lightly tapping him on the cheek until he opened his eyes again. "Just stay with me, Neal, can you do that?"

So many people…

You make a difference…

With an effort Neal kept his eyes open.

"Where else 'm I goin' to go?" he managed, attempting a smile and Peter chuckled weakly.

"I don't know, Caffrey. I don't know."

Forever…

End.

A/N: So I honestly don't know what happend to put Neal in this situation. In my mind he was shot but the circumstances... -shrugs-...
