Kushina is a survivor and most of all—a fighter. A sheer force to be reckoned with, her flame like hair whooshing above her, as her fists would hit the targets with a sickening crunch, there was always something there behind her eyes.

A strange look, almost liberating—like she was free, letting out all the emotions she has contained and releasing it out on the few people who tested her patience. Minato could only watch, he didn't know whether to be horrified or not, but he knew she wouldn't hurt others just for the kicks.

Those were the same group of boys who harassed her, calling her names and derailing her dreams of becoming the first female Hokage, he's seen it back at the academy, even trying to help stand up for her.

Kushina would give him a quirk of her eyebrows, and tell him it wasn't needed, talking smack right back at the group of boys—which only caused an absolute yelling match between the two parties, where Minato felt out of his element trying his best to diffuse the situation before it got worse.

If it did, well—Kushina would ready her fists until the teacher came back, breaking it up before it got out of hand. She would throw him a look, and Minato opens his mouth to say something, anything, but quickly shuts it as she walks away, her hair flowing behind her. He swears in that moment, he sees what true beauty and a heart full of strength is like. It's her.

.

Once Kushina has tired herself out, dropping the boy to the ground as he groans beneath her, his face not even recognizable just like his companions, she pauses and stares at the blood on her knuckles, and blinks.

She looks up and catches Minato's eyes. Shit.

He didn't conceal himself well enough because she caught him, almost like a fox snaring in a rabbit—target locked. Kushina frowns, and Minato doesn't know what to say, and she looks back down and walks across the unconscious bodies of the boys, strutting away.

Minato blinks and without even thinking blurts out a "Wait!" Kushina doesn't stop, she walks with her fists stained and clenched beside her as he tries catching up. "Wait, I didn't mean to intrude, I just didn't know how to—" she rounds on him, her eyes suddenly igniting and her hair flaring up. "What do you want?" It's harsh and full of discontent.

Minato swallows, trying to figure out a way to reply, when he finally says:

"I'm sorry."

Kushina blinks, stunned a bit, as if he grew three heads, but she could tell he meant it, with the sincerity in his eyes and that look of empathy, she recognizes it. She flushes slightly, looking up towards the trees that blow, the cherry blossoms scattering about and she feels silly, and light, she immediately pushes it down, as she finds her surroundings and her eyes spark again.

"Don't be."

Minato watches her walk away, flowers catching in her hair as she goes, he doesn't move for a long time, but he knows.

He can finally see that he was able to warm his way into her, he finally formed a place next to her, and he smiles.
