The Grey

Some people believe the world is Black and White, that there is no Grey area. That Christianity is the only true religion. That whites are superior to all others. That a white man should only date a white woman. That those who are different should be shunned. Everyone should be exactly the same. They believe there is some unwritten, iron law that makes these things so and that everyone knows this law when really; it exists only in their mind.

But there is a Grey area. For those of us who can see that Grey, our life is full of options that those who cannot see it, will never know. The greatest people are the ones who can see that Grey. Their minds are open to the possibilities and they dared to venture into that too little walked, too little known about Grey. It is always swirling, always changing size and shape.

We cannot make them see it, that Grey area. All we can do is show them where to look for the door. But they must find it, they must grasp the handle and open it, and only they can walk through it.

But even after we walk through that door, there is another corner of the world that is even harder to see. The colors of life that give us rainbows after a rain storm; I cannot even begin to describe the path or the door leading to this corner. But I know it is there, for I have stumbled across it unwittingly.

I have walked through the door, I can see the Grey, I proudly walk through it with my head held high, and now I can see rainbows everywhere I go. But my journey is not done, not until I guide as many as I can to the door of the grey.
