The tears wouldn't stop falling. His chest kept pounding, his mind swirling. A new face it seemed with every heart beat.

And it hurt. His mother had tried to comfort him. Telling him that he had his heart back now. It was no longer stolen. But the fact of the matter, was it was stolen.

His little treasure. Many called it an urban legend of Central America. But he knew better. He had the curse.

A baby born clutching a small rock in their tiny hands at birth, was holding their heart to give to their mother.

Of course his parents protected it, even his older siblings did until he was trusted with it at the age of nine.

He had thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Until some kid with a mullet took it.

His heart skipped erratically, his emotions were running high and wished nothing but to be with him and he didn't understand why. But when he tried to to express his feelings, his heartbeat, the other children only laughed. He could clearly see the sneer on the mullet kid's face as he mocked him.

His heart felt like it had shattered into a million pieces. It had only been when his sister got his heart back that his aching heart began to calm down, warming to his sister, and feeling fragile when put back in his own hands. He never wanted another to hold his fragile little rock heart.

But life just wasn't fair.

How many times would his little heart be stolen?

How many times would he lose it?

It only seemed to get worse in space. What would happen if it ended up in an enemy's hand?

Could he really hurt his own heart in the hand of the enemy?

It was because of this, he had it locked away inside Blue. And their it remained, even after Allura became her paladin.

Even with the Red Lion now being piloted by himself, he would always trust his little heart with his lovely Lady Blue.

I uh... Had this idea at work.

A small portion of Earth's population is born with what appears to be a rock. Think of it like a crystallized form of Quintessence. It is directly connected to the heart and the person's emotions. When a rock is in someone else's possession, the owner of the rock can't help but love them.

This leads to some chaos as some lose their rocks or have their stolen and can't help but crush on the person with their rock.

Those who give their rocks away trust the person they offer their heart to.

So Lance being a flirty but guarded individual with a physical heart making rounds not just on Earth, but in space would be interesting.
