Brothers to the End
Brothers there were, in a desperate fight,
to save their world from death.
Many had been lost, the war to survive
never seeming to end.
One last bid to save their friends and comrades, the world itself,
against impossible odds.
In that bitter struggle so many already fallen
one brother had lost his reason to go on.
Never the same after what he had to do in the Hollow,
after releasing his wife from agony and torment.
Hope he had no longer, simply the drive
to make sure no more of his friends died.
But his brother came foremost among them,
those he would give his life to save.
When things seemed impossible,
he knew what had to be done to save them.
His whole family dead, except for his brother,
who he would not allow to die.
The sacrifice had to made,
and he made it without hesitation,
with consideration only for what he was defending.
At Mercy he asked for them to be safe,
because the path ahead would be hard and perilous and he
would no longer be there to help them.
But he would protect them now,
even in his despair he remained the man everyone knew him to be.
So Dom Santiago died that day at Mercy,
when his friends were surrounded by hordes of darkness.
He saved them, and thanks to this ultimate sacrifice,
they were ultimately able to deliver Sera its salvation.
They gave it a tomorrow.
