When will I be found

Ok so yes, another zombie one. It popped into my head when I was writing the second chapter of Which is better.

This one is a walking dead style of Orange Is The New Black.

It will contain femslash.

And unfortunately I am still not friends with Jenji so I don't own anything to do with this series.

Chapter 1 Piper's P.O.V

"186," I whispered, watching the slowly rising sun. For six months now I've been on my own, not a single glance of another person.

All I ever came across now was the dead, no matter where I was or whatever time of day it was there always seems to be at least one within close proximity to me.

It was a lonely existence but it kept me alive. At the beginning I had been part of a group and it had worked for awhile, we all seemed to have each others backs and we worked well together.

However, it quickly became noticeable that we seemed to attract large numbers of dead or as I call them walkers.

At first we managed but then we'd get attacked again and again everywhere we moved and we started loosing people. We'd been a strong group of almost thirty people but the space of two months our numbers dropped until there was only nine of us left.

Again though we kept going, even managed to find a good place to bunker down for the first winter. It was an old beat up motel on the outskirts of Chicago, surrounded by trees and not much else which made it perfect.

We had stayed there until the snow had melted, doing odd scavenger trips to the slightly more populated areas around us. It had been the most comfortable place we'd holed up in a long time.

Then of course the inevitable had happened, we were over run in minutes. Matt, one of the last men in our group, had been on watch that night. He didn't get chance to warn us before we heard his screams of agony.

Dead poured through the doors, while others were slamming themselves against the windows and outside walls.

Myself and another woman, Kaley, were quickly cut off from the others. we broke one of the back windows that weren't enveloped by the walkers and scrambled out. She got her jacket caught on the window pane for a split second, but that was all it took for them to reach her and drag her back inside.

No matter how much I wanted to help, I knew I couldn't which only served as a harsh reminder of what this new world was like. So I turned away and ran.

I ran until the sun came up, dodging trees and upturned roots before breaking through the tree line and onto solid concrete.

I never looked back or went in that direction again until now. That was six months ago.

Id managed to secure an old barn last night so it was safe enough to catch some sleep but now, as the sub rose I knew I had to double back.

The houses were getting few and far between the further I moved away from Chicago, making supply runs incredibly difficult, so now I've got to loop back around and make my way to the main highway. Cars were abandoned early on, on the main roads due to heavy traffic of people trying to get away from the main cities. They would of only been able to take what they could carry so hopefully, if no one has beaten me to it, I'll find something useful.

I was running low on food and water, so if the car rummage doesn't go to plan I knew I'd have to venture into a town or city.

However only as a last resort.

Hefting my satchel and back pack onto my shoulders, I gripped tightly onto my trusty baseball bat. I kept a gun and two packs of ammo in my satchel though just as a last chance type of thing, I had only had to use it once before and I hoped I never had to again. It's only a small 9mm but immensely loud, to loud for me to get away without bringing myself a heap load of trouble.

Id slept in the loft of the barn, using the slightly rotten hay that was up there as a mattress. It had been the most comfortable place since the inn.

Checking out of the window I was glad to see only a couple of the dead wandering around, when there's so few it's easy to avoid or pick them off but when in a large group it's like they feed off each others hunger getting them more and more riled up making it extremely difficult to get away from them without being swarmed.

Silently, I pushed the ladder back over the edge and climbed down, my feet landing on the ground with a soft thump.

I edged over to the barn doors, peeking through the cracks in between the wooden panels. There were a few more than what I thought stumbling around outside. With a well placed shot it would give me an open shot to make a run for the woods.

As quietly as possible I slid the beam of wood out theirs holders and slowly pulled one side of the door open. I held the door open as I slipped out, quickly checking each side of me. I knew as soon as I let it go, it was going to cause a bang because there's nothing to soften it.

Taking a deep breath, I withdrew my hand and ran at the closest walker. Swinging my bat it connected soundly with its head, making the dead crumple to the floor. I winced slightly at the thud behind me but took my chance and hightailed it into the woods.

I picked up my pace, just to be on the safe side, easily avoiding the obstacles the forest offered.

I followed the trail id made the previous day back to the road, only stopping my fast pace once I stepped onto the tarmac. It was about two miles walk back to the highway which shouldn't take that long, only if nothing detoured me on the way.

My mother had always used to say that I rushed to much, like the devil himself was chasing me. Who knew that she'd been right, most days I was actually being chases by the spawns of hell.

An hour and half later I reached the beginnings of the traffic jams coming out of Chicago. I'd passed this before but never searched any of the vehicles, Lena another person Id travelled with had once called it graveyard.

Some of the cars looked like they were off the set of a horror movie, blood spattered across the windshield and windows. Some even still had people in, or what remained of them, ones that had chosen to to opt out instead of fighting.

Honestly I don't blame them, the thought having crossed my own mind in these past few months but every time I always felt a pull to keep going, that I needed to.

Stepping upto the first car I peered in, cupping my hands to my face to block the sun. I recoiled instantly, a baby seat covered in blood and god knows what else greeted me in the backseat, making my stomach churn with the thoughts it invoked.

I moved a few cars down, seeing one with the boot open. Double checking over my shoulder I dropped my bags on the floor and lent my bat up against them. There were a few bags in there, one containing odds of family photos and some ornaments, so I carefully placed that one to the side. The next one contained clothes, which I managed to find a light weight water proof jacket that fit and a couple pairs of jeans.

I carried on doing this for about six or seven cars before giving up. There wasn't a trace of any food or even an old bottle of water. It seemed either everyone took it all with them or other survivors had beaten me to it.

I gingerly sat in the front seat of the vehicle closest to me and grabbed my last tin of food from my back pack. I'd gotten into the habit of ripping off the labels from any can I collected, that way I just have to eat what ever I grab even if I didn't like it. Wasting any type of food theses days is plain suicidal.

Pulling off the tab, I was greeted with the sweet smell of peaches and whispered a thank you. At least something was going my way today.

I lent back fully in the seat and just stared at the towering buildings ahead of me. I knew in my mind that I would have to go in there but it didn't stop the fear from entering my heart.

Big cities are practically death traps, they're swarming with walkers. When going into one, you've got to be thinking at least three steps ahead, never be wieghed down either. Just get in and get out m, you can't linger linger in places like that, all it takes is for one of the dead to know your there and the entire city will be on you.

I sighed, it was now or never if I wanted to get in there and back out and then find somewhere to stay for the night. Planning in my head where I needed to go, I shoved my backpack under the car. My satchel was big enough to carry whatever I found and if not, well every shop has bags.

I needed to go to a pharmacy, any food store and if possible a shoe shop. My boots were getting pretty uncomfortable now, I don't think they were really made with an apocalypse in mind.

I waited until the sun was at it highest point and started jogging down the road. Keeping my pace even and eyes alert as I stepped into the first of the towering buildings shadow.

As ssoon as I reached the building, I pressed my back against the cool stone and crouched down. The first alleyway entrance was just down the street, once I get there I can take the back ways through the city hopefully avoiding any large hordes.

Slowly I lent around the corner, my eyes quickly finding my destination. However, the plan of getting there was dashed outright.

The dead littered the street in hundreds, some were crouche. Over something while others were clambering up onto a military tank.

My heart jumped in my throat as I watched a walker closest to me lift its head and sniff the air like a damn hunting dog.

Not waiting another second, I sprinted across the street to an open door and slammed it as fast as I could behind me. I took stock of the room I was in, it looked like an office lobby. Having spent a good portion of my adult life in places like this, I immediately located the stairs.

Taking them two at a time, I clambered up flight after flight until I finally reached the roof access door. Office buildings always had fire escapes.

Racing across the gravel covered roof to where a loop from the fire escape was just visible I felt my heart stop.

Gun shots echoed up from the streets below me, getting louder with each bullet fired. I dropped to my knees and lent over the edge.

The tarmac under my escape root was filled with walkers trying to climb the ladder after two people who were scampering up.

Pushing myself back over before they saw me, I fumbled with the catch on my satchel before just ripping it open.

Keeping one hand firmly, albeit shakily, on my bat I lifted the other out in front of me while flicking the safety off my 9mm.

The clangs of shoes hitting metal gradually got louder until a head of blonde curly hair appeared. She quickly swung up onto the roof, not noticing me, and reached down to help her companion over the edge.

"What the fuck happened?" The blonde cursed, smacking the other on the shoulder. The dark haired woman pinched the bridge of her nose, shaking her head back and forth.

"I was hoping you could fucking tell me!" She snapped back, which was quickly refuted in the same tone.

"Hey!" I yelled, rolling my eyes as two pairs of shocked eyes turned to me.

"How the fu..."

"Shut up Nicky!" The black haired woman growled, jabbing her elbow into Nicky's stomach.

"Really?" I sniped, "A gun is pointed at you and still you keep arguing?"

"Well yeah, what else are we supposed to do? It's not like your scarier than them lot down there!"

"Nicky!"

"Alex!" She replied shrilly, rolling her eyes.

"Shut up already!" I shouted, my patience finally reaching its limit. "Do you understand what you two have just done?"

Recognition flashed across Alex's face at my words.

"We're trapped aren't we?"

"Yes! All because of you two idiots. First you rile them all up and out into the open, making me almost get overrun and then you decided it was such a good idea to fire a gun!" I ranted, racing back over to the roof access door. " And great, here they come!"

The spattered footfalls and moans of the dead echoed up the staircase. As there shadows loomed on the walls, upping the fear factor by hundreds.

"We can't go back down the fire escape, there's too many down there," Alex called to me, shooting over to where I was standing. "We can sort of lock this, pop the latch on the inside and shut the door. It should hold them off for a little while, hopefully we'll figure out what to do before they break through,"

Doing as she said, the door clicked closed seconds before the dead reached it. There rotten bodies thumped up against it, over and over again.

I ran back over to the roofs edge, double checking what Alex had just told me before looking around for another escape route.

The buildings either side of the one we were on were lower, giving me one of the most stupidest ideas in history.

"We need to jump," I stated, forgetting the fact that these women could be a danger to me momentarily and slipped the safety back onto my gun and slid it back into my bag.

"Excuse you?" Nicky scoffed, shaking her head. "I sure as hell am not jumping anywhere, these legs barely work on solid ground!"

"Fine, enjoy being eaten by undead cannibals!" I shot back, before taking off across the gravelled roof as fast as my legs would carry me.

Pushing off at the edge, my stomach lurched as I flew through the air. The opposite roofs gravel covered ground got closer quicker than I was able to prepare myself for, causing me to land harshly on my front. The small stones cut into my palms and scrapped against my stomach.

Split seconds later, another body landed hard next to me. Curses flying out of there lips.

Curses also sounded from behind us making me turn my head slightly, only to see Nicky's flying body coming straight for me. A hand gripped onto my waist and dragged me out of the others landing.

I ducked my head as a smug smile lifted my lips, just as Nicky hit the roof just as I had.

Scrambling to my feet, I ran for the door to get off this roof glad to find it unlocked. I could hear Nicky and Alex following me but paid then no mind, I had a task to accomplish and time wasn't exactly on my side.

"Where are you going?" Alex whispered, grabbing hold of my wrist and pullin me to a stop.

"I came into the city for a reason, I need to go to the pharmacy on 8th and then find somewhere I can get food,"

"Looks like we're all here for the same reason then," She smiled.
