chapter 1
I watched as the cloud coloured petals flew from the dandelion in my grasp, letting the wind now extinguish its gravity all together. Would you even call them petals? There like completely new tinier dandelions, growing off itself. As they float away along with all my wishes, I can feel the heavy stone inside me leave, as if all my worries flew away as well.
My name is Kit. My real name is Lakita Carmena Williams, but I prefer Kit, so everyone calls me that instead.
My name comes from my mother, Carmen Rosalinda Pedroni Williams. Pedroni is her maiden name, since my grandpa is Italian and my grandmother is Spanish, which is where Mum's two first names come from. Dad is completely opposite. His full name is James Richard Williams, and his parents are British and Scottish. Dad has a sickly pale appearance, with his freckles and grated carrot hair.
My parents met at a high school party. My Dad noticed my mother first, and you can't blame him. Mum has always been hot, with her naturally tan skin, dark brown curls and melted chocolate eyes. In fact, you could even describe her as a mysterious, dark beauty, which is how my Dad always recounts.
My mum was a popular cheerleader, she'd always loved the fern green sports uniform of Mesa High, and had tagged along with the other cheerleaders to the party. She had a boyfriend at the time, some jock named Rob, which is kinda funny, considering he's in jail right now for theft. My Dad was a computer nerd, he adored his video games, and had conned the guy who was holding the party to invite him as a 'favour' for doing his maths homework.
My Dad noticed my Mum walking through the hallway, and immediately noticed her looks, so like a fool, decided for once he wasn't going to blush and that he'd go up and ask her out. Unfortunately, geeks back then didn't know that you shouldn't ask out a cheerleader, especially one dating the most popular guy in school, because there will be consequences. Dad ran into a caterer, spilling punch all over Mum, causing Rob to beat him up, and getting himself kicked out of the party. Fortunately for Dad though, Mum couldn't get the 'red haired geek who spilt punch all over her beautiful fern green' out of her head, so when he heard she broke up with Rob and came to pay for her cleaning bill, he asked her out, and she said yes.
My parents had me three years after they got married. I was there first kid, so that meant that they had to get used to parenthood during my childhood. My mum got used to it pretty quickly, she was always a great mum, but Dad struggled. He didn't know what to do with a daughter, considering he had always thought he was getting a son to go fishing with or to show his video games, but once I turned four, and starting showing interest in his video games, we got along like peas in a pod.
