Disclaimer: Gate 7 belongs to CLAMP, not me, although i'm too lazy to try and come up with a funny reason why.

Hana was very good at sensing the presence and intentions of those with oni. Even Sakura didn't notice them as fast as Hana, although he certainly reacted faster.

So when Mitsuhide Akechi appeared, ready for a fight, Hana was the first to realize it, readily defending Chikahito and Hidetsugu before anything else. Hidetsugu wasn't easy to surprise, so he took it all in stride, but poor Chikahito had no clue what was happening. The closed space swirled around them, enveloping them completely in blackness.

Hana knew the limits of Myoho, but what choice was there? Mikoto wasn't meant for battle, couldn't face off against Enka. Hidetsugu's strengths, like his oni's, lay in other areas. And of course it was no good to expect Chikahito to fight. It was up to Hana.

Fighting alone was hard, though. It simply wasn't done. Hana always had Sakura and Tachibana to provide weapons, and all the others had their oni partners. Hana was a good fighter, but wasn't as strong alone as Akechi and Enka were together. The little warrior was forced to battle on the defensive, dodging and countering Enka's moves rather than launching an attack that would injure the oni.

Hana didn't really want to fight Akechi, but it would be bad if he took Mikoto. And besides, there was the Dairokutenmaoh problem. "Why do you seek Dairokutenmaoh?" Hana asked. Depending on his answer...

At his reply, Hana knew it was no good. Akechi couldn't be allowed to continue. Hana would have to fight. Alone. No matter how the fight ended, Hana wouldn't let him win.

Hana came to this decision, but then recognized a very familiar presence coming closer fast. The little warrior relaxed. There was no need to worry now.

Sure enough, it was only moments before Masamune burst into the battlefield. He and Kurikara made an excellent team, destroying Enka's flame bird with one slash. He only took the time to throw a quick insult Akechi's way before devoting his attention to Hana. His concern, as well as his kiss, made Hana happy. Akechi, however, was quick to turn tail and run.

Hana hadn't needed to worry about how the fight would end. As long as Masamune was Masamune, he would always come to fight when Hana was in trouble. Knowing that, there was no need to fear battling alone. There would be no battles where Hana had to fight alone. And with Masamune, there was no need to focus on his well-being like Hana had to with Chikahito.

"Thank you, Masamune," Hana told him as the envelopment disappeared, and was happy with the feeling of his embrace.

A/N: So apparently i've been neglecting G7 lately, but it's not like i'm the only one. (That just makes it worse, doesn't it.) This was my first time writing from Hana's perspective, which was about as hard as i thought it would be, but at least i wrote something.
