Fanfiction story 1

Chapter 1

The warm sun beat down me as I slowly walked through the dense, cool atmosphere of the forest beyond the broken electric fence that I used to crawl through when I was young. Now, since the fall of the Capital so many years ago, I thought it was okay to take two pieces of rubber and permanently break the fence and walk through that fence every day, although I do not hunt as often as I used to in my youth. Gale does not come to hunt with me now, and he says that he is not nimble enough since he paralyzed his leg when carelessly crawling through the electric fence about a year ago. Suddenly my thoughts of Gale are interrupted as I stumbled upon a little gold pointed thing, which looked like it was there for a few centuries and had a swirled design to it, like an old-fashioned soft-serve ice cream cone. I take a nearby stick with a fork in the middle and pick at the gold thing. It moves a little, but stays put in the ground. I soon decided that I was going to need a lot more people to move and discover what the little gold thing was, so I stuck a little stick in the ground next to it, and left the area, eagerly running home to tell my sister, Prim.

Prim was utterly shocked when I told her of the little gold thing that I found. "I think I know what that is, but first we should check with Old Nate. Old Nate was the town historian, and no one knew where he got his information, but everyone came to him when they needed the answer to a question that had to do with the general area. So Prim and I made a plan to split up to save time. Prim would recruit any locals that wanted to help with the dig, whilst I was to go to Old Nate's house to get more info on the thing.

When I got to Old Nate's house, I immediately knew that his house was even older than he was. The house was obviously built in the revolution, during the time when long-lasting building materials were scarce and houses were all made out of wood. As I walked up the creaking steps, floorboards started to fall off of the porch and when I touched the door, it fell down with a loud clap on the floor. I was expecting that… I said to myself. Suddenly, Old Nate's booming voice shook through the ratty old house with a big "WHO'S FUCKIN' THERE?" "I'm Katniss Everdeen, the girl who won the Hunger Games twice in a row." I replied. "Oh. Sorry about that. I recently had a breakup with my wife, and she keeps coming back to say sorry. Come on in." Old Nate appeared from behind a close wall, and for the first time I saw how truly old he was. His skin was covered in wrinkles, and he walked with a heavy limp to the right side. "So, have you come to ask for some tips to win the next Hunger Games? Only joking." "No, I was walking in the woods around here and I came upon a little white thing, and it looked like an old-fashioned soft-serve ice cream cone." "Oh, you have found something worth massive amounts of money, billions. Have you heard of the Statue of Liberty?"

It was a huge cultural icon in the time of the USA. Unfortunately, during the third American Revolution, it was moved to about where we are now and disassembled. I still can't believe that you actually found a piece of it." "Well, I appreciate your info, and I hope to come back soon." I wanted to get out of that house as soon as possible, because it was starting to give me the creeps. I ran at top speed to the bar where Prim and I were supposed to meet, and when I got in the bar there were about 45 people waiting for me, with Prim right in front of them. "The news traveled farther and faster than I thought, and it looks like we have enough people to start the expidetion!"
