There were many scents that mattered to Charles Tucker the third.
When he was lucky enough to smell freshly-cut grass, he remembered his father.
If he caught a whiff of tobacco, so rare in his era, he recalled the college friends with whom he'd shared many a contraband cigarette during late night cram sessions.
Foods, of course, had their own set of memories. From pecan pie to peaches to catfish, each was associated with moments in time. Most were pleasant recollections, but a few, like nightmares he couldn't quite chase away, were awful. His stomach still turned violently at the aroma of cranberries, for example.
This wasn't surprising. Scent-associated memories were common in his species.
But there was one odor that meant more to him than most, though even his closest friends might not have guessed it. After all, his closest friends, with one very notable exception, were all humans. Humans who didn't have first hand knowledge of the smell of sex with a Vulcan.
And though they'd been nothing but exceptional friends for ages, the fact remained that every time a conduit burned out just so, and the tinge of smoky copper filled the air, Trip thought of T'Pol.
