Chapter One

"Rouge, give back that chaos emerald!" Knuckles the echidna growled and clenched his spiked fists in anger. Rouge the bat hugged the red jewel to her chest and smirked as she hovered a few feet above him, just out of his reach. "Sorry Knuckie…but orders are orders!"

"W…what? Rouge, Come back! Who's orders?" He glared at the now distant figure flying towards Westopolis. He sighed and moved over from his post to get his communicator. As much as he wanted to chase after her, he couldn't. Guarding the Master Emerald took up most of his time and left him almost alone. He typed in the number and waited impatiently for the person on the other end to pick up.

"Knuckles? This had better be important…I'm kinda busy right now!" Knuckles raised an eyebrow and replied. "Sorry to bother you Tails…what's that noise in the background?" A crashing sound could be heard clearly, followed with a buzzing noise, he could barely hear what Tails' was saying. "It's…something is trying to get…Hey! Put that back…Rouge!" The communicator buzzed and switched itself off.

"Tails? Tails! Oh great, Rouge got him too…" Knuckles groaned and decided to check on Tails. He flipped a switch and a white laser surrounded the Master Emerald. Knuckles grinned and confidently walked out. Anyone who even touched the laser would be dust before they could get to the Master Emerald…

"Only two?!? Rouge, my dear…I expected better from you!" Dr.Eggman frowned as he looked up from the two chaos emeralds on his desk to Rouge. She shrugged and stood up from her chair. "Hey, don't blame me…I don't know where the others are yet…and why can't you do this yourself?" Eggman smiled, his annoyance at her bluntness badly concealed.

"Now, now…I understand…but I'm not paying you for two emeralds, am I?" Rouge laughed and batted her eyelashes. "No Doc, but I am hoping for an advance…" Eggman stood up and folded his arms. "No way, not until all seven chaos emeralds are in my possession! Understood?" Rouge sighed and turned to look out of the airship window. "Understood…Hey, isn't that…?"

Looking out of the window, she could see the wing and more importantly, the hedgehog on it. Beside the airship was a plane, and from what Rouge could see, a golden-yellow fox was driving it. The hedgehog turned and gave Rouge a thumbs up, before speeding through the window.

Glass shattered as Rouge ducked under Eggman's desk. Eggman backed up against the wall, confused at the sudden entrance. "What is…? Noo! What are you doing here…Sonic the Hedgehog…"
