Natalie Linger POV
Today was the day, today was the reaping day. And I was going to volunteer for a spot in the hunger games. I was sitting on a chair in the living room when my seven year old brother came up to me and said. "What are you doing?" "None of your beeswax," I said. "Are you thinking about volunteering he asked? "NO!" I said my voice razing. "Daddy told you not to" he said. "SHUT UP" I said. And with that I pushed him out of the room. It's true, I was thinking about volunteering. My dad told me to wait until I was eighteen, (I was sixteen now) but I didn't care what my father said 2 more years of what sitting around waiting around when I already new how to fight. So I went upstairs put on some jeans and a simple shirt and went downstairs again. Went out the front door. I walked to the town square, then went to the roped off area where all the girls who are young enough to be reaped stand. Then our escort came onstage and gave the speech about how 4 7 years ago there was and uprising, but the capitol defeated the districts. And as a reminder every year since one two children from every district is put together in an arena to fight to the death. I rolled my eyes about 10 times during the speech. Our escort then said "ladies first" and walked over the girls bowl and picked out a name, she walked back to the microphone and only having the time to say the letters "j" and "a" before I shouted "I volunteer as tribute" I walked up on stage and said grabbed the microphone and said "watch out Hunger Games cause here I come!" I then stepped back and waited for my district partner to be picked… or should I say volunteer. Our escort walked over to the boys bowl and picks a name. Before she can even reach the microphone somebody shouts…
Avery Monroe POV
… "I volunteer as tribute" I shout before our escort even reaches the microphone. I run up onto stage and smile to the crowd. I then look at my mothers and fathers faces and there gleaming smile tails me that there happy that there son, there eighteen year old son is going to be in the Hunger Games.
