Severus Snape opened up the letter that was sitting on his reading chair in front of the window. It was a plain white envelope, covered with purple and pink unicorn stickers. He smiled as he usually did when receiving a note from his daughter and sat down to read.
Dear papa.
Mumy said the bébé should be here soon, i want a little brother! Can we name him after a prince? Mumy keeps reading me Le petit prince and i want to name him after the prince!
Mumy also said that i can get a puppy! Can i realy? I want a big puppy, not a little one like Julie potter has, a big puppy that can protect me when your away!
Mumy says i have to go to bed now,
I love you papa!
Severus smiled at the rough pink heart at the bottom of the note, and looked into the crackling fire. Hermione was pregnant with their second child, and despite what all of their friends were saying, she was certain she was having a little boy. He stood and walked down the hall to where his daughter slept soundly in her room.
He opened the door and walked to kneel by her bed. She slept with a blue teddy bear in her arms, her black hair spread over her pillow as she breathed deeply and slowly. He brushed his hand over her cheek, smiling as she turned towards him and snuggled deeper into the warmth of her bed. He kissed her cheek and then stood; pulling the covers over her, he tucked her in. He whispered a good night, before shutting the door and walking to his own room.
Hermione lay against the headboard, a book in one hand and a cup of tea in the other. He stood and watched her a moment, watched her put her book down and rub her hand over her swollen belly. He silently walked into his room and shut the door. Not all the way mind, in case of nightmares scaring his baby. Hermione noticed him as he opened the closet doors to change.
"Hello darling, I didn't hear you come in. How was work?" She moved her book to her bedside table and watched her husband undress.
"Uneventful. I argued with the board of governors, on how to better spend the schools money, but they were being right bastards. How was your day?" He hung up his shirts before removing his pants and folding them in a drawer.
"Good, Sophia and I took a walk around the gardens; she seems to be obsessed with the rose bushes. She loved Le Petit Prince so much that I read it to her three times today before going to bed! She wrote a letter for you, did you get it?" She reached over and turned down his side of the bed while he was in their bathroom.
"Yes, I did. She wants a puppy, does she?" He turned off the lights before climbing into bed with his wife. "Did she say what kind of puppy she wanted?"
"No, but darling," she kissed his cheek. "Since it is Saturday tomorrow, and we have nothing planned, I was thinking maybe we could stop at a kennel after we do some shopping? Oh, that was a big one!" She grabbed his hand and placed in on her belly, letting him feel the kicking from their child. "I'm telling you, it's going to be a boy. I just know it!"
"I hope so love, and I see no reason that we can't get a puppy. For now, I want to sleep before she wakes us tomorrow morning at an ungodly hour." He kissed her, "I love you, Hermione."
"I love you too, Severus. Good night, darling." They both closed their eyes. With his arms wrapped around his wife, and with a child down the hall and one on the way, he knew things couldn't get better.
He also knew that by tomorrow night, his daughter would have the biggest, most loveable puppy they could get. He spoiled her like that, but didn't every father?
