Logan paced back and forth in the lush Palm Woods lobby, his stomach filled with butterflies and his head whirring. The prom was in three days and he still hadn't asked anyone out. He knew who he wanted to ask, but he hadn't had the courage to even walk up to her. "OK, today's the day," he thought. "Here she comes!" A tall, pale girl stepped off the elevator, her long, golden hair bouncing behind her as she walked.
Logan approached her slowly. "H-hi Rebecca." he mumbled, head down, hair shadowing his face.
"Hey Logan!" she chriped. "What's up?"
Logan looked up at her through his dark brown locks. "I-I was w-wondering if, maybe, uh, um," he cheeks started to turn red. "Well, uh, urhm," he couldn't do it, the nerves were overwhelming. He took off down the hall and up to his apartment, leaving Rebecca standing there alone, awfully confused.
The rest of day flew by with more failed attempts from Logan. With every attempt came more frustration from Logan and confusion from Rebecca. It was now 7:00 in the evening, Rebecca was sitting in the lobby on one of the dark orange couches that looked out over the pool, reading through a script. Logan had finally gathered up enough courage to approach her again.
"Hi Rebecca!" he said with a lot more confidence than the first time.
"Hi again Logan," Rebecca replied.
"Ok, so, I was wondering if you maybe wanted to go to the Prom with me?" he asked with an awkward half-grin. Rebecca stood up with her script hugged against her chest.
"I wish I could say yes, Logan, but, well, James already me, I'm sorry,"
Logan watched with sadness and anger as Rebecca stepped into the elevator. She gave him a small wave goodbye as the doors closed. Logan just stood there, staring at the closed doors, his heart filled with envy and jealousy.
