Until It's Gone
A/N: A double drabble this time. Both 100 words each.
Timeline: First one is set early Season 1, the second is set during Season 2's "Mystery Spot" when Sam is on his own for all those months.

Entering the dingy motel room, Dean immediately dropped the bags and started assessing. One door, one window, closet… not too bad. Kitchenette with a few dishes—make sure to wash those—bathroom… acceptable. Fairly clean. A window in case they needed to escape.
"Is it safe?"
Safe? What was that? Dean turned ready to respond when he saw Sam's amused smirk. Right. Not serious. Just a joke. "Well aside from the possible mold, I think it'll meet you… lofty standards."
Sam just made a rude gesture and then plopped onto his bed. "Whatever. You want dinner first or a shower?"
….
Slicing through the last vampire, Sam watched body and head fall before wiping the machete on his pants. He hadn't been looking for vampires but, like anything supernatural these days, he eliminated them.
One less thing between me and that damned Trickster.
Movement startled him, and a terrified girl appeared looking down at the carnage. "Are they…"
"Dead? Yes," Sam replied coldly. "You should go."
"W-wait! Is… is it safe?"
Safe. He'd known what that meant once, but not anymore. Not without Dean.
Turning, he gave her a sad look. "Don't worry. You'll be okay." And with that, he walked away.
