Disclaimer: I don't own Glee.

A/N: This probably fits in with S1 of Glee mainly, although I was listening to 'Get It Right' (I absolutely love that song!) when I came up with it :)

Worthless

Rachel Barbra Berry had never felt good enough.

Ever since she could remember, she had always been made to feel worthless.

She had talent in abundance, and had done, right from when she was a little girl; she had won countless prizes and awards for her singing and in dancing competitions.

Hearing her name being called out like that, made her feel like something special; it was like a rehearsal, for when she would make it on Broadway years later.

As she stood on the stage, proudly clutching her gold star trophy, out the corner of her eye she caught two girls: one of them pointed at her, whispered to the other, and they both started to laugh.

She tried to ignore them and kept smiling; although now her smile didn't quite meet her eyes. The shine had been taken off her achievement and she felt like nothing.

When she had posted her first video on her My Space page, 'On My Own' one of her favourite songs, and had eagerly waited for feedback. As the comments had come pouring in one right after the other, she had felt a surge of excitement, that was until she had started to read them; comment after comment was full of horrible abuse, so nasty that tears had stung her eyes as she read through them.

She had even began to doubt herself and her ability: maybe she wasn't as talented as she had thought, in fact maybe she wasn't talented at all, and if she didn't have her talent, then what did she have? She had nothing. She was nothing.

For every day, she walked the halls of McKinley High, head held high, only to be slushied by Karofsky and his gang. For every day she would spend in the girl's bathroom in front of the mirror, trying to wash the slushy mess from her hair.

She wondered deep down if she was kidding herself, maybe she was destined to be a Lima Loser forever.

Being an adopted chid, she had always felt like something was missing in her life.

Her mother.

Every Mother's Day that passed, she would dream her mother would be there, every birthday she would wish for her as she blew out the candles, she would watch other girls with their mothers and feel a stab of jealously.

When she finally found her mother; her dreams of a happy reunion had been shattered, and she had felt rejected by her all over again. And to twist the knife even further, her mother had adopted Quinn's baby and left to bring her up. Was she really so horrible and unlovable that her own mother didn't even want to know her?

And then there was Finn Hudson. Star footballer, one of the most popular guys in the school, and she so wanted to be with him, but he was with Quinn (until the whole baby gate saga).

When Finn had chosen her over Quinn; it had made her feel so special. Girls like her didn't get chosen over girls like Quinn Fabray, not in the real world anyway. Quinn was blonde and gorgeous, but when Finn told her that he loved her, Rachel knew.

She had Finn.

And suddenly she didn't feel so worthless.
