One Last Conversation

Tsunade stood on top of the First Hokage's head looking down at the village. It was a clear night. The moon was full and stars dotted the night sky like freckles.

'I should have stopped you. I should have warned you.' she whispered.

'It's not your fault.' Jiraiya appeared next to her. 'You had no way of knowing.'

'Didn't I? I won almost $800 dollars a week before . . . . I know what happens when I win and I ignored it.'

'Ok, say you told me. Maybe it would have changed things. Maybe not. We can't change the past. We can only affect the future.'

She turned and looked at him. 'You always did sound like a Hokage at times.'

'Maybe in another lifetime.', he mused.

'I never got the chance to tell you.'

'I know. You don't have to say anything.'
