A/N: I don't own Sonic X, but I do own Shock the Wolf Ronin. By the way, this is based on episode 21 when Sam races Sonic. As for Shock's description, he's an anthropomorphic wolf that wears a grey cloak and has a katana on his back. He can teleport, can create and control lightning, he's very skilled with a sword, and he's very fast (almost as fast as Sonic. Almost.) He is 16 years old, and he and Blaze have a thing for each other.

"Sure, I'll race you Sam, But only if you let Shock race too."

Sam raised an eyebrow. "Sure, if he wants."

Sonic turned to Shock "You up to this?"

"I am healthy and rested." replied Shock.

"I'll take that as a yes. Come on, we'll be able to finally find out who's faster."

Blaze waved at Shock from the starting line. He smiled back at her, making her blush. Blaze was rooting for Shock, Amy for Sonic, and Tails, Cream, Cheese and Adrian were cheering for all three of them.

"On your marks…." began the announcer, "Get set…..GO!"

The three racers shot off at lightning speed. This was what Sonic loved- shooting along a track in a contest of pure speed.

"And they're off!" said the reporter. Apparently the race was being filmed live, so in Shock and Sonic's case there was no room for mistakes.

Soon they entered the section of city with many buildings.

"The racers will have to be extra-careful to avoid crashing on the turns!" said the reporter. She was really getting into this.

Sonic manoeuvred himself skilfully round the corners and Sam used a special trick that made the buildings open up a path for him. Shock, however, just kept on going in a straight path. It looked as though he was going to crash.

"It looks like Shock is going to crash!" cried the reporter, thinking the same way.

Shock smirked. He launched himself into the air at the last moment, and in one swift movement drew his katana and sliced through all the buildings in his path.

"Oh my goodness. Shock the Wolf has just cut through an ENTIRE ROW OF BUILDINGS!" she cried. Clearly the excitement was too much for her.

Landing, sheathing his katana and speeding off again, the racers entered the desert. Shock caught up to Sam and Sonic.

"That was some move with the katana." complimented Sam.

"Thankyou." replied Shock.

Suddenly they saw a large robot up ahead. "You cannot pass! Turn back!" it said to the racers.

Sonic sped past it with Shock and Sam following close behind. The rest of the desert was pretty uneventful until they came to the hairpin bend. Shock jumped off the road and then bounced off the rocks of the bend, sending himself hurtling the other way. He landed and shot off again.

"The racers are coming back!" cried the reporter. "They're pulling out all the stops to reach the finish line!"

It was true. Shock was giving it his all, Sam was putting his foot down on the pedal so hard he thought it was going to break, and Sonic felt like his legs were going to fall off.

They crossed the finish line and the camera flashed. The crowd went wild. Sam's engine burst into flame (only to be put out by attendants), and Sonic and Shock both had their hands on their knees, panting. According to the camera flash all three had finished at the same time, but when reduced to frame-by-frame, it appeared that Sonic had finished first and Sam and Shock had tied.

"And the winner is…..SONIC!" yelled the announcer, and the crowd when even wilder if that was possible.

"Put 'er there, pal!" Sonic said to Shock, holding out a hand for him to shake. Shock hesitated, but then shook it. It was a historic moment- Shock, Sonic's greatest rival to date, had admitted defeat. The three racers shook hands, and Sonic and Shock's respective girlfriends ran down from the stands. Amy was hugging Sonic so tightly he was in danger of collapsing due to lack of oxygen before she let go, and Blaze hugged Shock before kissing him on the lips.

It was the beginning of a great friendship.
