She had felt that similar sensation creeping up, filling her chest, making her feel she couldn't breathe.  It was happening all over again.  She thought this time it would be different, that she wouldn't have this urge, because finally love was there.  But once again she found herself first emotionally, and now physically, leaving the relationship.  This time was so different than the others; she wasn't leaving out of boredom but out of fear.  Fear of the emotions gripping her soul.  Fear of needing someone else.

She hadn't told anyone she was leaving.  She had never physically left before.  But she needed to be away or else he would convince her to stay.  For some reason she kept looking for him at the airport, hoping he would magically appear and rescue her from herself.

She had packed some shirts and pants into one travel bag- leaving the majority of her possessions behind.  She had no real destination; she had just asked the airport for the first flight out of New York.  She was supposed to be meeting him right now.  The real estate agent had found them an apartment with spare bedrooms for the girls.  All they had to do was sign for it.

She could imagine him standing there, looking at his watch, worried.  Closing her eyes, she tried to block out her imagination, but his face was embedded on her soul.  She was hurting him; she knew it.  But she couldn't stop herself.

Her hands were sweaty on the luggage bag.  She felt rocky as if she were on a boat.  Her chest was clenched tightly and breathing was difficult.  She would be fine, once she left, she told herself.  Though she had no job to go to, no place to live.  The loudspeaker called for her plane.  Samantha Spade got up, turning around looking one more time for him, and walked onto the plane.

The end.
