She was lying on her back, the sky was blue, and her mind was whirring with thoughts. She ran a hand under her legs to dust off some of the sand that was stuck to them, a gesture that was something that came without thinking, completely pointless as well because as soon as she had set her legs back into the sand they were covered yet again.

Rikku didn't care about the sand anyway; she had more important things on her mind. She tucked a hair behind her ear and whispered to herself, "It's been three years, you know Auron, three years since you left."

She sat up and hugged her legs to her chest, she thought about him constantly, even when she was working he was on her mind. She was successful, but only because she was who she was, one of Lady Yuna's guardians.

Rikku was good at what she did, she had become a great actress, but she spent most of her time telling the story of the pilgrimage over and over to village children as she travelled from town to town. It broke her heart over and over to tell of the ending, the part of the story where both Auron and Titus leave the group to go to the unknown of the farplane.

She had a week break in her tour, a week to spend with her father and brother in the home of the Al Bhed. The sun and the sand of the desert calmed her and let her clear her head of the constant chatter of the crowds, let her be alone with herself for awhile.

Rikku could hear the sound of her father whistling as he worked on the walls of Home, the voices of Lulu and Wakka could be heard as well. This was the good times, this was what she was doing it all for, so Father could finish building Home over again.

She lay back once again and closed her eyes, the sun felt warm on her face. But it didn't last long, something or someone moved in front of the sun, blocking the rays from hitting her. "Hey you big meanie, I was enjoying that sun!" She whined and opened one eye to look up at the person standing in front of her.

"And hello to you too, Rikku," the familiar gruff voice answered her, "it's nice to see you're doing well." Auron stretched out beside her and looked over at her with a half smile.

"How?" Rikku asked, confusion written across her face. She stared up at the sky, thinking that if she looked at him he just might disappear.

"The faith thought that it would be a good idea for me to come back," Auron replied looking down at the young blonde girl.

"So you're not… dead anymore?" Rikku asked propping herself up on her elbows, chancing another glance on the guardian clad in red.

"No, I got a new lease on life," Auron said. He hesitated for a moment and leaned over to press a light kiss on her cheek, "I missed you Rikku."

Rikku smiled, "And I you."

AN: I hoped you liked it; I was bored and decided to write a one-shot aurrikku fanfiction. This is all you're going to get on this fic, so don't even think about trying to get me to write more! I might decide to write more on my own though… or if you have any REALLY good ideas I might continue. Thanks for reading.

Disclaimer: I don't own Final Fantasy, and if I did it wouldn't have ended the way it did!
