There were other differences between Humans and Shinigami besides the Eyes and manner of death, Ryuk mused. Shinigami have no sex drive, and neither do they have the required anatomy. There was no such thing as an infant Shinigami, as they did not reproduce in the traditional sense. There was no purpose for it. It's odd how easily it is to forget such things until they come to mind.
Immediately after the death of Yagami Light, Ryuk returned to the Shinigami realm and was ordered to report to the King of Death. When he arrived, there was a new Death God kneeling before the throne. Its face remained hidden, but Ryuk knew.
"Ryuk," said the Shinigami King, "show this new one around. Most of his memory is gone. He is your responsibility now, seeing as how you were the one who trained him so well."
The one kneeling turned to face him. It did not resemble the human at all, but then again none of the others did either. Now it beared the appearence of half-mummy, half-skeleton, and the once-proud eyes were now sunken. Ryuk almost felt bad for it...almost...
The King of Death continued sternly, "As punishment for your actions in the Human World, I am removing your ability to trade Eyes with a human." With a sweep of his hand, Ryuk's appearance changed; his pupil-less eyes glazed over, his hair bent backwards, and he was now robed in a heavy grey robe. "The next time you become bored, Ryuk, I advise highly against dropping your Death Note."
Ryuk chose to not acknowledge the 'lecture', as he never really cared about Eye-trading with humans in the first place. "All right, kid. Let's go." Ryuk spouted his wings, and the other followed suit. He smiled in spite of himself. "You got your wings after all," he muttered aloud, absent-mindedly.
The other looked at him, confused. "What?"
Stunned, Ryuk blinked. "Nevermind. I'll explain later. We've got some details I'll need to go over again with you...Light..."
