Chapter 1
Lincoln Burrows was sitting alone on the dark grey pavement of the basketball court. He anxiously looked around for any suspicious signs confirming what he knew were the truth- that he was innocent and was set up by the American government that was supposed to have its country's best interests at heart. In his heart and mind, he knew he was innocent and was falsely sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, but with the rest of America believing he truly was the murderer of the vice president's brother; his life literally was nearly over. In just a couple of months, he would be sent to the chair and that would be the end of Lincoln Burrows- the convicted killer of the vice president's brother. Soon enough, he started to speculate and think about the wrongs he did in his life - the list was long and probably never-ending. Maybe he had set out that night to murder the vice-presidents brother, but he was the only one that believed he never pulled the trigger. Regrettably, he started to reminisce about his past life before the whole murder and prison incident. He had been involved with purchasing and dealing drugs since he was sixteen years old and in and out of prison from even younger. He was very well-connected with the gangs in Chicago and although he would never publicly announce his regrets and feeling towards those street gangs, he knew they were the sole purpose of why he was sitting in Fox River Penitentiary on death row.
"It was bound to happen anyway", he quietly convinced himself, but he also never discovered the reason why the government wanted him in the ground. It was not as if he ever murdered anyone like those other gangsters. He always knew his limits when it came to the gang, because if he strayed one toe out of line, those cold-blooded hounds would go after his family and that was seriously something he could never live with. Things had already started heating up on the streets ever since his incarceration. Many gangsters and drug dealers had already died, however no suspects were currently held in custody for those murders. The homicide department was desperately trying to find those murderers and remove them from the streets. The press was now calling them the results of the 'Gangland War' due to all the tension and hot water between all the gangs in Chicago. Lincoln's incarceration had caused a stir and the question on everyone's mind was- When will it end?
Lincoln knew it would all end soon – when he was dead and all his mates would accept that fact and move on.
Sadly, he stood up and started to make his way back to his highly-secured cell when he heard a correctional officer calling him.
"Burrows! You have a visitor", he announced and led Lincoln to the visiting room. He quickly cuffed him and showed him his seat. Lincoln sat there, curiously pondering as to who it could possibly be visiting him at this time.
Footsteps could be heard approaching and as Lincoln looked up, he couldn't believe his eyes as to whom he saw standing in front of him.
"Hello Lincoln Burrows. Long time no see".
