CHAPTER ONE
I couldn't quite figure out why it had to be this way. I was originally happy at home with my grandparents. We had a nice country farm, covering 8ht of land. The farm house was brick and the barn stood high next to the stables. My caravan sat happily in the backyard. I still remember when I found the beautiful van in a garage sale, a few years ago. The van had my very one bed and everything a girl could wish. One year a robber stole half my things. That was when I began to feel that everything had turned bad.
Somehow I felt as if everything I had now would soon be gone forever. My grandma seemed to be keeping something from me. She always makes up excuses when I ask about my mum and dad. I wish to find out who they are one day. I have begun to feel as if no one wants me. My friends have become to hate me and still my younger sister is somewhere out there, maybe dead. Sophie went missing when I was 8 and she was 7 ½. One afternoon she was outside playing with Daisy and Poppy her invisible friends. I had watched her through my van window. I looked back to my sewing then back to where Sophie was but no one was there. I didn't know if Poppy and Daisy were there. I left sadly over to the house to break the news to my grandma. She sat waiting for grandad to arrive home from work. A cup of tea sat in front of her being untouched, the steam still evaporating. I opened the back door and walked through the laundry, then through the hallway into the kitchen. I sat gloomily on an empty chair and began to twirl the knife that sat on a napkin. I was going to open my mouth but was interrupted by Grandpa arriving home. Grandma left the table and I sat their alone. My Grandparents would not talk to me.
The day felt long and tea was soon ready. I sat on the left side and Grandma sat opposite, while grandpa sat on the head of the table. There was silence as people ate the vegetable soup. I went to bed that night in my Van. I looked out over the hills and to where I last saw my younger sister in morning. I felt as if nothing would ever be the same again.
I stayed in my van for most of the morning. I was busily in my laptop when I saw a shadow at my door. A letter was slipped under the gap and the shadow disappeared. I left my laptop on my bed and got the letter. It had a written on it Miss Mia Colina. It was my name but it had on it the Royal Palace picture in the top left corner. I thought to myself if I should open it or should I leave it. In the end I open it to find an embroidered page witha picture of the Queen of Genovia. The letter said:
Dear Miss Mia Colina,
You may not have been told but you have royal blood. We are inviting you to the Palace to become a Princess. You may not realize but your life is trying to show you that there is more than just that farm. We have booked for a private plane on Monday for you to come here. You Grandparents have been informed. So sorry about your Sister Sophie.
Please be prepared for the YEARS ahead.
From the Queen of Genovia
