Phryne took jack by the hand and led him through the crowd of bustling people. He had no idea where they were going until the door out to the balcony appeared in view. Stepping outside onto the balcony, Jack let out a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding. Phryne looked stunning in the dim light. She wore a sleeveless sequined gown that drooped down the back outlining her petit figure and dropped just below the knee. Her green eyes shone with energy sparked like the exotic jeweled head piece she wore. Jack ran a gentle calloused hand down the smooth porcelain skin of her exposed left arm.

"Jack" Phryne breathed a little astounded. His gaze slowly shifted moving its way up to stop at her blood red lips.

"I believe I owe you a kiss, Miss Fisher" Jack murmured tilting her delicate chin up to his.

Phrynes' eyes fluttered shut as Jacks lips gently brushed hers.

As the kiss deepened Jack pulled Phryne closer to him. Phryne relaxed into Jacks arms, her kisses bursting with passion. Suddenly Jack pulled away, releasing Phryne and turning out towards the night.

"I'm…I'm sorry Phryne I can't" he stammered turning back to Phryne. Phryne sighed looking away.

"I'm sorry Jack as you know, I am who I am"

"I know Phryne…. I can't deny that I have feelings for you, I care for you Phryne but I don't think I can do this, I don't think I could live with another broken heart" Phrynes' face had distinctively darkened, her green eyes no longer shone as they did when he first kissed her.

"I understand Jack" she whispered his arms once more pulled her close, but this time to embrace her.

"Friends?'' jack whispered into her ear

"Friends" Phryne confirmed planting a soft kiss on his cheek.

Phryne pulled her fur coat closer around her shoulders and shivered.

"Its getting cold shall we head indoors?" Phryne queried

Jack smiled and offered her his arm.
