This is something that I thought of as I reading a one shot written by friend. You could say they inspired it a little bit. I hope that you all enjoy this and I'll try my best to keep the story interesting.
I don't own Shadowhunters as much as I would like to.
Chapter One
Alexander Lightwood entered his English classroom looking forward to the lesson for the day. Today was finally the day that they would get to pick their pen pals. When the teacher had first explained the lesson to the class, he thought about how cool it would be to write to someone that he hadn't met before but also didn't live in the same country as him. When he explained the lesson to his parents, his mother recalled doing the same lesson when she was in school. She mentioned to him that she still wrote to her pen pal to this day. She had told him that her pen pal was one of her closest friends and someone that she could confide in when she needed advice about anything.
Alec hoped that he would be able to have a pen pal like his mothers'. He was a bit of a loner at school and really only interacted with his brother and sister. The two were very popular and had no problem interacting with the other students and going out on the weekends. Alec was more prone to stay at home and study for upcoming tests or work on his assignments. When his siblings tried to get him to go out he would sometimes go reluctantly but even then he wouldn't interact with the others.
Alec took his sit and waited anxiously for the bell to ring. He really hoped that he would have a pen pal that he could confide in and tell his secrets to. He knew that his siblings wouldn't tell any of his secrets but there were times that he was scared to share certain things with them. He looked up from his thoughts as the bell rang and the teacher entered the room. The teacher was carrying a pile of papers and he knew that his would have to do with the assignment for their pen pals.
"Ok class I know some of you have been waiting anxiously for this day and others of you are only here because you have to be and will only be participating in this assignment because you will receive a grade for it. For those of you who ae only in this for the grade I hope that you will take it seriously. This will be assignment will take the entire semester and I really want you to take the time to get to know your pen pal.
"Each week you will be given a choice between two prompts that you can write to your pen pal about. I want you to take your time to think about each of them before you make your decision. Don't just pick the easiest choice of the two, pick the one that is going to make you think and help you open yourself up to someone that you haven't met before. This assignment should stretch you and help you learn more about who you are as a person, it should also help you learn to let other people in besides those who are closest to you.
"This weeks assignment will be fairly easy since you are just starting to write to your pen pal, but as the weeks go on it will get more difficult. As part of your weekly assignment you will have to get up in front of the class to share what you learned about your pen pal that week. If it is something that you think will be too personal to share with the class you don't need to but you will be required to write a paper about instead," explained Mr. Starkweather writing the requirements on the board.
Alec eagerly wrote everything down. He wanted to make sure that he took the time to complete the assignment and he wanted to do it justice. He would take his time with this and he did with all his other assignments. He wasn't sure how to introduce himself but he knew that when he sat down to write his letter. He just wanted to find out who he was writing and start getting ideas.
Mr. Starkweather finished writing the instructions on the board and turned to face his class. He looked around and could tell that many of his students were not looking forward to this assignment. He had explained it to them at the beginning of the week and knew that the grumbling he heard now was the same grumbling he heard at the beginning of the week. His eyes fell on Alexander Lightwood and knew that this was a student who would take the assignment seriously. Alec was the main reason that he felt this would be a good idea for the class. He was a good student but getting him to stand up in front of the class for presentations and take part in group assignments was hard. He would do it, but it was hard for him and he preferred to stay in the back of the class hidden unless he was called on to answer a question.
"So I'll call you up by one by one to get your assigned pen pal. I expect to hear back from you on Monday that you sent your first letter out. For some of you it may take a while for you to get your first letter back, but once you do you will be expected to report back what you learned about your pen pal," explained Mr. Starkweather looking at his list.
He started calling the students up one by one to give them their assigned pen pal. Many of them smiled as they saw who they were assigned. Mr. Starkweather had tried his best to pair up the students with someone who shared some of their interests so it would make it easier for them to open up. Each student started to read the profile as they went back to their seat. Alec waited for his turn and jumped when he heard his name called.
He quickly approached his teacher hoping that he would be given someone that he could easily relate to. Mr. Starkweather was nervous because this was the one pairing that didn't make any sense, but he felt that this was the best choice for Alec and would help him to open up. The two didn't have much in common if anything but every time he went to pair Alec with someone else he kept coming back to this person. He decided to pair the two and hope that it would work out, maybe it would help Alec to come out of his shell a little bit.
Alec took the paper from his teacher and started to read about his pen pal. He came to abrupt stop when he read that they were interested in fashion and that they were planning on pursuing a career in the fashion industry when they graduated from high school. He turned to look at his teacher a question on his face, he didn't think he would have anything in common with his pen pal and was worried that this wasn't the right match for him.
