The morning is overcast and grey, and the light that filters through the window barely provides enough light to illuminate the bedroom inside and the two sheet-tangled and slumbering bodies within the room.

In a few minutes, the alarm on the bedside table will sound, rousing one half of the sleeping duo. With the screeching alarm turned off, she'll allow herself to laze in her lover's arms for a handful of moments, both amazed and amused at his ability to sleep through the noise of the alarm. Next, she'll set herself into motion, untangling herself from both lover and sheets, eliciting sleepy grumblings from her bedmate as he rolls over.

His rumpled t-shirt will be fished off of the floor and pulled over her head, providing some sense of modesty for the woman to pad her way into the kitchen and start the coffee; it's decaf, of course, but he never complains, drinking it anyway. He'll get himself a cup of "real" coffee once they get to work.

The bathroom will be her next stop, or, the shower, to be a bit more precise, and she'll have to pass through the bedroom again, stopping to throw an affectionate smile towards her still slumbering lover. He'll he awake by the time she's done, though, as if by some internal alarm, and when she returns to the kitchen, dressed and hair still damp; he'll meet her there with a kiss, murmuring a greeting and using her first name with such tenderness it makes her heart skip a beat more often than not. A few more kisses will be exchanged and a mug of coffee is pressed into her hands before he saunters off for his own shower.

The remainder of their morning preparations will be broken up with kissing of varying heatedness and the occasional grope; but they'll make it out the door in good time, and arrive at work early. When they leave the car, they'll stop being Lawrence and Remy, and become Kutner and Thirteen again; Remy donning the aloof and closed off mask Thirteen is known for, and both doctors pretend they're nothing more than acquaintances, friends at best.

Today will be a hard and bloody day. They, and their co-workers will be unable diagnose their newest patient, and end up trying in vain to fight against the young man's illness, inevitably failing as the patient gasps his last breath.

Kutner'll sit next to her during the debriefing, squeezing her hand gently beneath the table and rub small circles into the back of it with his thumb as she squeezes back. In a rare display of compassion, House will send them all home early, and as they cross the parking lot, Thirteen will reach for Kutner's hand, despite mutual agreements against displays of affection at work. Neither will care.

They'll forgo dinner for the evening, and instead they'll curl together on the couch, slipping seamlessly into being Remy and Lawrence again, and both will relish the nearness of another live, human being after such a trying day. As they watch television, Lawrence will think about the small black box hidden in his coat pocket, and decide that a very important question should be put aside for another day; instead he'll lean down and, after a quiet, mumbled declaration of affection, kiss her sweetly.

As the evening goes on, more kisses will be exchanged and hands will wander, ultimately leading the pair of lovers back to the room where the whole day began, leaving them collapsed in a slumbering tangle of man, woman and sheet.

The alarm sounds, and a slim hand extends from beneath the warmth of the covers to silence it….
