"I hate you."
Kimiko had prided herself on being very, well, proud. She'd prided herself on having a flaming exterior and a hot temper to match. With harsh words and unfriendly actions, she showed that she didn't need other people in order to achieve happiness. So, naturally, she was quite surprised at Raimundo's reply to her malicious comment.
"No, you don't."
He sounded casual, even relaxed. She couldn't understand how, since they had had an argument just moments beforehand.
In a arrogant fashion, she placed her hands on her hips and scowled; the stance was infamous according to her friends. "How do you know if I hate you or not?" she snapped. "You can't read my mind."
"No, I can't," he said. With a grunt, he heaved himself off the ground. "But I can see your face."
When she did nothing, he brushed a stray hair from his jade eyes. "I can just tell things. I'm a smart guy, you know. Pay attention to Clay and his "friend", for example. They're over in the –"
"I can tell where they are!" Kimiko cut in, irritated.
Rai held his hands up in his own defense. "Fine, fine. Well, pay attention to them. It doesn't take an Flame thrower or even being able to see in order to tell that they like each other. They're flirting right now, just by walking around in the garden. That's how I can tell you don't hate me." He paused for dramatic effect, and then added, "And you know what else I noticed?
Her cheeks turned the slightest shade of pink, but she responded with a dignified "No."
Ignoring this answer completely, Rai strode up to Kim and said in the voice he usually reserved for picking on Omi and Clay, "You don't hate me at all, do you? In fact, you actually sort of like me, don't you, Kimiko?"
Of all the things Kimiko Tohomiko wanted at that moment, the thing she wanted most was for Rai not to notice her blush. So in an attempt to make her mortification seem more like rage, she began to shout at him.
"You conceited jerk! Why in the world would I ever have feelings for you? You just assume that I like you because you're cute and funny and smart, but really you're just a self-centered, annoying, je –"
Her outburst was cut short when he swooped down and kissed her, hard. Her reflexes almost caused her to send him flying into the wall in a wave of flames, but something else caused her reflexes to stop. Something else… a something deep inside where she assumed it had been hiding… liked this feeling, and that same something else forced her to kiss him back. Kimiko was no longer aware of her surroundings, no longer aware that everyone had stopped what they were doing to stare, in shock at the new couple. And she liked it. All the while, a voice in the back of her head laughed.
Maybe I should fight with Raimundo more often!
