Today was one of the most wonderful days of Hermione Granger's life. Second only to the day Harry had defeated Voldemort. After weeks and weeks of trudging through Australia, Hermione had finally found her parents. They had a small practice on the outskirts of Melbourne, and all Hermione had to do was wait for them to go home so she could perform the reversal spell and restore her parents' memories.
Hermione passed the time reading in a little café about a block from her parents' office. Finally, her watch read 4:55, so she paid for her tea and made her way back to the office. Making sure to keep her distance, Hermione watched the Wilkins lock up their practice and start walking down the street. They walked for about seven blocks when Hermione's parents turned and walked up to a small white house with flowers in the window sill. Hermione smiled.
Just like mum always wanted.
She waited for about thirty minutes before she made her way up the walk and carefully opened the door. Heroine found her parents sitting in a patio facing the backyard, their backs turned to her. She raised her wand and whispered the incantation. Her parents went rigid and when she finished, nobody moved.
Hermione let out a shaky breath. "Mum? Dad?" Her parents turned to her, tears in their eyes.
"Hermione? Is it you?" Hermione let out a sob and ran to embrace her parents.
"I was so worried I would never see you guys again!" Her parents wrapped their arms around her and they all sank to the floor.
Once they had all calmed down, they moved to the living room. Hermione caught her parents up on what had happened since she sent them away, and they told her of all they'd done while in Australia.
"I'm just so relieved that nobody figured out who you were and came after you."
Hermione's mother put her tea cup down.
"Actually, now that you mention it, there were a few times we were approached by men in black cloaks, wearing masks. I was nearly attacked while walking home from the market once. But ever time things almost got bad, there was a man. He would show up out of nowhere, the men would fall unconscious, and then he would disappear. The police wouldn't do anything because no harm ever actually came to us."
Hermione was in shock. She was terrified that her parents had been found out, but relieved and thankful for their makeshift guardian angel.
"Who was he? Did you know him?"
Her father shook his head. "We don't know who he is, never seen him before. I'd like to know, though." He smiled at his wife and put his arm around her. "I've got a lot to thank him for."
"What did he look like?"
"He was tall, skinny. He seemed handsome, although I never saw him up close – he always wore black. But he was so pale, almost ghastly, and his hair was the lightest shade of blonde…"
