He had started wearing glasses at home and in his office. With age, his eyes were deteriorating but there was a subconscious self-consciousness surrounding him that prevented him from wearing them around the West Wing. One late night he was furiously typing up a series of remarks, encompassed in a personal zone that took hours to cultivate. He didn't even notice CJ walk into his office and sit herself down on the couch facing him. He never heard her clear her throat either, all his senses absorbed into his work.
"You look hot in glasses, Tobus."
Toby was startled and jumped slightly as a nervous reaction, causing CJ to giggle softly. He collected his thoughts and his nerves, having completely forgotten he was wearing the glasses and brought a hand to his face, slowly taking them off.
"What?"
"You heard me. Since when did you wear glasses anyway?"
"Oh, erm a few weeks." He waved his hand and leaned back into his chair, realising he wouldn't be getting back to work anytime soon.
"How come I'm only just seeing them?"
"Well you did a good job, sneaking up on me to get yourself a peak."
"You make me sound like a pervert."
"When you're not, yes I know. Can I help you?"
"I just wanted to check up on you, it's nearly 2am.
"I'm aware, why are you still here?"
"I don't want to go home."
"Any reason?"
"I knew you were here, sitting wearing your glasses being all hot."
"What's the real reason, CJ?"
"My pile of memos seemed to develop a growth spurt without me noticing, so I'm catching up."
"Ah, well you interrupted me."
"I apologise, I can leave now."
"No, stay. I'll never finish tonight anyway."
"Oh my, a masterpiece fragmented! I can hear it stumbling into the sad corners of the archives as we speak."
"Excuse me?"
"It's what they call teasing."
"Yes, CJ, I am familiar."
"I'm gonna head out soon, want me to wait?"
"Yeah I won't be long."
"Okay just drop by my office and we'll walk out."
"Sure."
"Oh and Toby?"
"Yes?"
"You're hot anyway, but the glasses definitely agree with you."
"I'll see you soon, CJ."
She walked out, closing the door behind her. Toby observed the glasses sitting before him on his desk, then placed them back on. He tried to seek a reflection through the glass to Sam's office, but failed in the darkness. Standing up and compiling his things, he thought to himself with a slightly smug smile: "CJ thinks I'm hot?"
