Hello all! Yes, a brand new fic just for you! Don't you love me? I hate me, to be honest. I have no clue where this came from, so of course that can only mean one thing. This fic may take left turns, right turns, and maybe even do a loop-de-loop at some point. But, that just means more fun for us to behold.
The entire story's title comes from Adam Lambert's song Runnin, I don't know why after listening to it a bunch of ideas came to mind and I somehow pulled this out of my ass. Hope you enjoy it anyways.
Update: I went back and fixed a few of the layouts of the dorm and rooms.
Also, I built the school on Sims 4, under the name The Institution, for those who have the game and are able to take a look. My ID is Calmminded.
Golden-eyes went wide, watching the rough looking blonde's fist coming straight for his face. He had been too stunned to really move, his hands clutching to his books closer to his chest as he waited for the impact. Wincing his eyes snapped shut, waiting, a loud gasp escaped the other boy's lips, but no pain seemed to emit against the golden-eyed boys face. Tentatively he cracked one golden orb open to take in his assailant's form, above his head the blonde boy's fist was caught in mid-strike by a pale hand. Both golden-eyes sprang forward, the blonde boy's emerald-green eyes no longer held the look of anger, but fear at the newcomer.
Ray took a quick glance to his right to where the pale hand that had saved him came from, gold met crimson briefly and he took notice of the bright menacing flash in them. The red-eyed boy growled in his throat and pushed the blonde man's fist away, effortlessly knocking the taller teen back three steps as he fought to regain his footing.
"Get lost Dunga." The red-eyed teen said, his voice smooth like honey but sharp like thorns.
Dunga's face scrunched, he spat on the grass at the red-eyed teen's feet and spun on his own heels. His small entourage of two other emerald-green-eyed boys, that had been behind him the entire time, followed suit after glaring at the red-eyed teen. Ray let out a relieved sigh as his knees shook slightly from the impending beat-down he had almost received.
"So, you're the new kid hu?" Ray jumped again at the silk smooth voice and nodded his head, his black bangs dancing in his face. "Hn, consider that your initiation then." Ray looked at the other teen bewildered, what initiation?
"Um, what?" He almost snapped, but tried to keep his calmness about as he spoke since he was slightly thankful for the other stepping in.
"You'll learn soon enough." The red-eyed teen said as he waved over his shoulder, having turned away from the other and started back to wherever it was he had appeared from.
Ray's mouth was slacked as he watched the retreating form of the other teen, taking notice of the dark hair at the back of his head when he remembered the front of it was almost the color of cool steal. With a shrug of his shoulders he plucked the paper in his pants, folding it open over the books still in his hands to glance back at the map of the school campus.
From looking at the map he could tell he was in the south wing courtyard, the fountain that stood not too far from him was also displayed on the map. Along the paper of the map he had made small red X's over the buildings that made up the campus, just to remind himself of which building he had been in during the day. He had drawn a large black circle around another building, marking that as his dorm and on the paper, he took notice it was on the north side of the campus. With a sigh he folded the map back together and stuffed it in his school uniform pants, trying to hold his held high he started to head north for his dorm.
As he continued his walk he started to take mental notes of the scenery, any physical markers he could use later to make sure he never got lost while he wandered the campus. The trees that lined around the courtyard, pristine and perfectly manicured were nothing like the over grown tress in his village. His heart hurt a bit at the thought, the longing of his open world of his village and the love of his friends that he had left behind.
Why did he agree to come here again?
All day he had nothing but trouble here, and it was only his first day. First, he had missed the breakfast bell, and endured his first three periods with nothing in his stomach until lunch. Lunch was sadder as he had nowhere and no one to sit with, he made sure to take mental images of the other boys around the large cafeteria, taking notice of the 'clicks' that seemed to have formed on their own. He remembered seeing that 'Dunga' boy there, also the other two that had stood behind him as he went to attack Ray. He had shuddered at the thought, he didn't even know why Dunga had tried to strike him.
As Ray thought back to those red-eyes, the pale features of the other boy that had saved him he couldn't remember ever having seen him all day before until then. A slight coy smile graced his lips as he thought of his secret savior, not really caring how much more terrifying the red-eyed teen compared to Dunga and he hadn't even done anything really.
Passing through the archways that made up the light tan brick bridge above his head, Ray walked through into the northern side of the campus. Everything to him looked the same as he looked around him, nothing but tall tan brick walls encaged him, he felt like an animal trapped in a cage. Once again, he was left questioning why he had given up his simpler, free, life for this one that seemed to only suffocate him.
Just as he had passed under the shadow of the bridge above him, the sound of stampeding feet caught his excellent hearing and he turned in time to come face to face with bright yellow hair that rivaled the sun as the boy ran smack into his chest. With an oomph the two boys collided and collapsed to the concrete below, the sunny yellow blonde over the top of Ray and his backside burned, already feeling the skin on his elbows scrapped off from the impact.
"Oh, sorry about that." The sunny blonde said through a giggle, pushing and disentangling himself from Ray.
Ray shook his head, his black bangs swaying in his face as he tried to recollect his bearings and swearing under his breath till he looked up at the smiling face of the other teen, his breath caught in his throat at the bright blue eyes that bore into his golden ones. The blonde offered a hand out and Ray took it without question, his books being left on the ground from his tumble to the earth.
"You alright?" The blonde asked, blue eyes beaming.
Ray nodded his head, checking himself over, only a bit of blood seeped from the wound on his right elbow and he figured he would live. He had more damaging wounds back at his village, thanks to his playful and roughness in the mountains.
"MAX! YOU GET BACK HERE BEFORE I KILL YOU!" A loud voice boomed around and vibrated around the brick walls of the courtyard, and Ray could safely assume everyone on campus heard the voice.
Max's blue eyes widened joyfully, a large smile coming to his lips. "I have to go now." He laughed and started through the bridge above their heads, spinning slightly to wave at Ray. "I'll catch ya later, sorry about running into you." With that he turned and took off across the south courtyard.
Once again Ray was left in utter shock and confusion, nothing made sense in this school to him. None of these boys seemed to be the same, or too different. He had seen his fare share of pranks throughout the day in several classes, either dished out to another unsuspecting student or the teacher. With a slight chuckle caught in his throat he bent down scooping up his fallen books, dusting them off before holding onto them carefully against his chest as he started back in search of his dorm.
"HEY, YOU, STOP RIGHT THERE!" Three steps were all he had taken when that same boisterous voice that had shaken the campus before called out to him, Ray turned and braced his body for another impact as the bluenette came running towards him.
With a sigh of relief and thanks to the gods he glanced at the teen before him now, confusion still written over his face as he watched the teen pant heavily as he bent over his knees.
"You… You wouldn't have happened to… To see this blonde kid, now would you?" The bluenette asked through pants, taking off the ball cap on his head to wipe away the beads of sweat that were trickling down his forehead before he stood up straight and placed the cap back on.
"Um, he went that way." Ray nodded towards the south courtyard with a tilt of his head. "But he took off, I don't think you'll catch him."
The bluenette's brown-eyes looked saddened for a moment until they became fierce once again. "Damn him! Wait till I get my hands on him, I'm gonna wring his neck till he turns purple!"
Ray reached out to touch the other's shoulder, as he watched the teen fume from the nose and ears. "Um… Can I ask what happened?" Curiosity had almost always reigned supreme within Ray, sometimes it led him into trouble, but nothing he never could get out of before.
"Oh." The bluenette turned to the golden-eyed boy as his shoulder was touched, as if the calm from Ray had somehow reached him and pooled around him in a wave. "Um, nothing really. Don't worry about, um? You're new here, aren't you?" The bluenette raked his brown-eyes over Ray's face and frame, donned in the same school uniform as he was.
Khaki slacks, black belt through the loops of the pants and black sleek shoes, polished till one could see their reflection in them. His dark-blue blazer over a white crisp collared short-sleeved shirt, tucked into the pants. The only difference between the two boys and their uniforms were the extra touches they had seemed to add, Ray's red yin-yang head band across his brow while the bluenette wore a red and blue ball cap.
Ray nodded his head once more. "Yeah, my first day. Names Ray." He pulled his hand off the other teen's shoulder and held it out between them.
"Tyson." The other teen clapped his hand into Ray's, his grip firm but friendly. "Wicked eyes by the way, never seen any like that in my whole life." Tyson said, his smile crossing the width of his face.
"Oh." Ray's hand pulled out of Tyson's so quickly like he had been burnt, coming back to hold his books tighter to his chest. "Thank you…" He set his golden-eyes downcast.
"So, how was your first day?" If Tyson seemed offended by the sudden change in Ray he didn't show it, throwing his hands behind his own head as if they were a pillow.
"I've had better." Ray grimaced in a snarl, almost feral sounding until he realized what he was doing and coughed in order to cover it up. "I've gotten lost more times than I can count, I missed breakfast and almost missed lunch because the line was too long, and I couldn't find the cafeteria. Then, in art class someone decided to dye the ends of my hair pink." He reached behind him to pull out his knee length hair around, most of it was bound in a white cloth until a small tuft of the black locks stuck out, the vibrant pink paint crusted and dried on the ends.
"Rough man." Tyson eyed the hair, with a defeated sigh Ray released his hair allowing it to wrap back around his back.
"Then, as I was walking around trying to find my dorm this big guy came up and started shouting at me and then he tried to hit me." Ray fought the urge of letting his anger take over him, trying to keep his calmness about him. "I don't even know what it was I did, I didn't even walk into the guy."
"Did you catch his name?" Tyson asked, for some reason Ray was hoping Tyson would have looked a bit more concerned for him as he told his tale, but the other teen looked slightly bored.
"Dunga, I think. Blonde hair, tan skin as if he sat out in the sun too long. Emerald eyes." Ray recalled every feature of the other teen that had towered over his own form, and refused to shiver at the thought.
"Ah, yeah. Just consider that your initiation." At Tyson's words Ray's fine black eyebrow arched high.
"That's what the other guy said, what does that even mean?!"
"Other guy?" Tyson questioned.
"Pale, red-eyes two-toned hair." Ray explained quickly. "He caught Dunga's fist, told me the same thing you did but I don't understand."
Tyson closed his brown eyes, nodding his head a few times muttering 'mhmm' over and over before his eyes popped back open. "You'll find out sooner or later, I gotta go catch Maxie now. See you Ray, hope tomorrow is better for you." Ray's mouth opened as he watched Tyson take off in the middle of his speech, though before he had a chance to conjure up any words the other teen was clear across the southern courtyard.
"Great…" Ray heaved out, shoulders slacking forward as he spun on his heel to finally find his dorm and a hot shower.
Never in his life did he have such a confusing day, a slight headache was making itself known in the side of his head and he rubbed his temple as he walked towards the building he knew was his dorm, having memorized the gold-plated numbers that hung off the tan brick wall. Opening the door, he let himself in through the open foyer, to his right was the common room where there was a seating area and tv. In the corner of the common room, that was divided by a wall from the foyer and door, was a foosball table. Ray headed for the stairs that sat against the wall before him, kicking off his shoes and placing them on the shoe rack as he passed it on his right.
He knew the dorm would mainly be quiet since most of the other boys were at dinner, opting to skip it and take a shower in order to wash the paint from his hair. His room was the third door on his right, coming up the top of the stairs where five other doors sat around the open space of the second-floor. The building's top floor was nothing but the shower room and toilet room, another flight of stairs behind him across from the ones he had already taken up.
As Ray approached his door he dug in his pocket for his key, only to find it not there. "You have got to be kidding me!" He yelled, throwing his books down at his feet.
Every ounce of calm that he had been trying to cling to that day washed from him, his limbs shook as he punched at the wooden door with a closed fist. The wood splintered under the impact, and his eyes burned as the black round pupils slit down in a thin line. His canines pointed over his bottom lip, his hair almost standing on end as he hit at the door again in a feral growl.
"That's not normally how you open a door." The voice caused Ray's body to tense, his hand stuck in mid-air as he went to unleash another hit against his door.
As if on cue from the voice, Ray's eyes turned back to normal and he closed his mouth to hide his canines before turning to the owner of said voice. Behind him stood three other teens, the one he recognized from earlier who had saved him from Dunga, but it wasn't his voice that had spoken.
Beside the red-eyed teen stood a taller, thinner boy with bright red hair, two strips of his bangs swaying over his crystal blue eyes that held some kind of amusement in them. The rest of the red hair on the blue-eyed boy hung over his shoulder in a small pony tail, only long enough to brush past the boy's collar bone. The other teen was the tallest of the three, once again pale in complexion with grey eyes and lavender hair. Across the bridge of the grey-eyed teen's nose was a long scar that ran horizontal, beginning and ending right under the corner of his eyes.
"Lose your key already, new kid?" The lavender hair boy spoke, Ray recognized it as the voice that had spoken just moments ago.
"Yeah…" Ray sighed out, his anger washing away. "Now I have to go to the headmaster for another one." He groaned and wanted to pull out every strand of his hair from his head.
"Nah, here." The lavender haired boy stepped past the red-eyed teen, pushing Ray against his chest to stand in front of the door.
Ray would have bit the other teen's head off for having just been shoved aside, but once again his curiosity took over and he just watched the other boy with fascination. The lavender haired boy took a step back from the door, eyeing it carefully and methodically before he lifted his right leg and shot it forward. The door bucked under the force, snapping open and breaking away from the frame in a shatter of wood. Ray's mouth fell open, the other teen let his leg come back down to the floor and smirked at Ray.
"All fixed."
"No, it's not! You fucking broke the door apart!"
"You can get in now though, you're welcome." Ray could only shake his head and groan, the headache in his head coming in ten-fold now.
"Thanks." He bit out, bending down to retrieve his books from the floor as he walked into his room.
"What're you doing?" He spun around as the other three boys waltzed into his room, the lavender haired boy at the front.
The tallest let out a whistle as he stared around the room, at the barren walls and simple white sheets on the single bed. "Nice place you got here."
Ray had met some weird people in his life, he was personally friends with one of the weirdest people he knew, but nothing could top this tall pale teen standing in his room admiring nothing. There were no pictures, no color, not even a fake plant sitting on the window sill. What the other teen thought was impressive of his room, was a miss over Ray's head and he just shook his head.
"So new kid, got a name?"
"Ray." He twitched.
"Bryan, this is Tala and Kai. Our rooms are down the hall." He said, walking about the room still looking at the empty walls with fascination. "You know your hair is pink, right?" He looked over his shoulder, and smirked as he saw the shorter teen bristle.
"Yes, yes I do know. It happens to be attached to my head, so of course I would fucking know it's fucking PINK!" Ray bit out, all his anger surging forth once more.
Tala's eyes widened at the sudden outburst, having to hold a hand over his mouth to stop the laugh that wanted to escape. Bryan's own grey-eyes widened, along with the smirk across his lips till it reached his ears. Kai looked indifferent as he stood by the broken door, arms placed over his chest and eyes closed.
"Calm down kid, it was just a question."
Ray deflated once more, sitting on the end of his bed. "Sorry, today has just really sucked."
"Well, it's only going to get worse." Bryan said as he leaned against the wall across from the bed, stuffing his pale hands into his pockets. "What made you come here in the first place? You don't really look the type to have the money, no offence, to get in a place like this."
Ray shook his head again, a slight smirk on his lips as he allowed his bangs to cover his face. "I was asked to come here, by the headmaster." He let out a sigh and looked up at Bryan, golden eyes almost piercing through the grey ones.
Bryan let out another whistle at that, and arched an eyebrow at him, another question on the tip of his tongue. "You're not human." It wasn't a question, and Ray only nodded. "Makes sense then." Bryan shrugged his shoulders, peeling his back off the wall as he walked over towards Tala.
"I wish it did." Ray mumbled under his breath, rubbing his temples again. "I wasn't told anything really, just that I was wanted here, so I came. I didn't think much of it; an education is an education after all."
The other three boys in the room snorted in unison, if Kai's eyes had been opened they would have rolled into the back of his head. Neither boy wanted to spill out the secrets of the school and its purpose, so they each kept their lips sealed.
"It was nice meeting you, Ray. We'll see you around." Bryan waved as he walked out the room, Tala swiftly on his heel and Kai following soon after.
"Hey!" Ray called out, just as Kai's back had pulled from the doorframe.
"Hn?"
"Thank you, for earlier." Ray said, and Kai only nodded, his back still to Ray as he did so and then followed the other two out into the hall quietly.
Ray eyed his broken in door and sighed again, realizing there wasn't anything he could do about it at the time being he simply stood from his bed and went to the dresser under the window, he gathered his clothes and spun back around to head for the showers. Tyson stood in the hall, eyeing the broken in door and the shards of wood that littered the floor.
"What happened to your door?" Tyson asked, next to him stood Max who was indeed not any shade of purple.
"Long story." Ray sighed out shaking his head, the bluenette nodded and waved to him as he and Max turned around to their rooms behind them together.
"Why did I come here again?"
