Hi, everyone! This is just an idea that I had... it's not that good, but I just love the bond between Kiba and Akamaru, so I had to. Please review and I hope you enjoy this oneshot!
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.
Some days, Kiba Inuzuka questions his purpose.
He's never been the prodigy-no, that was Sasuke and Neji. He's not a genius like Shikamaru, as friendly as Choji, or as level-headed as Shino. Not being an outcast, he doesn't have the resolve of Rock Lee. And he's not anything like Naruto, although nobody he knows has ever been like Naruto.
Even the girls have been improving vastly. Sakura is a master of the art of healing, Ino is a well-rounded kunoichi, Tenten is good with weapons, and Hinata... Hinata has come a long, long way since when he had first met her.
In fact, everyone has changed so much and made something out of themselves (even if Sasuke *did* become a crazy psychopath) that Kiba feels like he hasn't gotten anywhere at all.
So what is he supposed to do?
He always asks himself this question when he sees Shikamaru going over battle strategy, Ino assisting him in his endeavors.
When Choji entertains little civilian children.
When Shino... is just Shino.
When Sakura works extra hours in the hospital, tired but with a smile on her face.
When Lee does 200 handstand laps around the village while Tenten watches him with an exasperated look.
And when Naruto trains until he faints, while Hinata and Neji do the same...
Kiba asks himself this question, wondering why, when he tries to do what they all can do, his result is never as good as theirs. And if he can't be like them, what is he supposed to do? Why is he necessary?
He never really expects an answer. But of course, it comes to him anyway.
In fact, it licks his hand and snuggles up to him lovingly.
When it does, Kiba knows what he lives for. He breathes for it, he eats for it, he trains for it, he revels in it, he exists for it. And in turn, it exists for him.
They might just be a boy and his dog.
But they know what it really means.
